Microfinance: A Comprehensive Review Of The Existing Literature, James C. Brau, Gary M. Woller

The Journal of Entrepreneurial Finance

Although the word finance is in the term microfinance, and the core elements of microfinance are those of the finance discipline, microfinance has yet to break into the mainstream or entrepreneurial finance literature. The purpose of this article is to introduce the finance academic community to the discipline of microfinance and microfinance institutions (MFIs). We provide a comprehensive review of over 350 articles and address the issues of MFI sustainability, products and services, management practices, clientele targeting, regulation and policy, and impact assessment.

Fisheries Occasional Paper No. 14 - Department Of Fisheries Stakeholder Survey 2004, Tara Baharthah

Fisheries Occasional Publications

A telephone survey of Department of Fisheries' stakeholders was conducted in August 2004 in order to evaluate their perception of the Department's management of commercial and recreational fishing, pearling and aquaculture, and fish and fish habitat protection. The survey also assessed satisfaction with the level of service provided to stakeholders and their involvement in decision making processes.

The results of this survey were compared to a similar survey conducted during 2002 and a survey of the general public conducted during 2004.

The sample comprised of 145 interviews - 41 representing the commercial fishing sector, 40 representing the recreational fishing sector, …

The Ecology And Relationships Of Chiropteran Ectoparasitic Communities Of Indiana, Christopher Michael Ritzi Dec 2004

The Ecology And Relationships Of Chiropteran Ectoparasitic Communities Of Indiana, Christopher Michael Ritzi

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The ectoparasites of bats are an important and largely unstudied area of mammalian ecology. The structure of ectoparasitic communities on bats, and their interactions with their hosts, may help in the understanding of roosting ecology, pa1iurition, and other aspects of host natural history. In this study, a vigorous survey of the ectoparasitic fauna of the bats ofindiana was undertaken, to determine if changes in species composition has occurred over the past 30 years. This survey resulted in the recovery of 51,980 parasites of 13 families from 2,816 host individuals of l O species, documenting 16 new host records and 14 …

Laboratory Experiments Of Entrainment In Dry Convective Boundary Layers, Harm J.J. Jonker, Thijs Heus, Esther Hagen, Han Van Dop

Physics Faculty Publications

Entrainment in dry convective boundary layers was studied. A saline convection tank set-up was used as a laboratory model for a dry convective atmospheric boundary layer. The entrainment flux was measured using planar laser induced fluorescence (PLIF). It was found that the entrainment flux reveals a much stronger dependence on the inversion strength than large eddy simulations tend to do.

Some Key Principles For A Lasting Solution Of The Status Of Kosova: Uti Possidetis, The Ethnic Principle, And Self-Determination, Zeinullah Gruda

Chicago-Kent Law Review

Five years after the end of the conflict in Kosova, final status remains an object of discussion. The author elaborates several options that have been proposed by analysts, diplomats, and various forums. The author argues that final status must be based on the factors that influence the creation of states and on the principles behind any democratic and just solution concerning statehood: uti possidetis, the ethnic principle, and the right to self-determination.

The Designation Of "Distinct Population Segments" Under The Endangered Species Act In Light Of National Association Of Homebuilders V. Norton, Katherine M. Hausrath Dec 2004

The Designation Of "Distinct Population Segments" Under The Endangered Species Act In Light Of National Association Of Homebuilders V. Norton, Katherine M. Hausrath

Chicago-Kent Law Review

The term "distinct population segment" in the Endangered Species Act has no defined scientific meaning. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Marine Fisheries Service have jointly promulgated a policy requiring a distinct population segment to be both: (1) discrete and (2) significant. However, the implementation of this policy has led to inconsistent listing decisions and the failure to list distinct populations of species that require protection under the Endangered Species Act. These problems are clearly illustrated in National Association of Homebuilders v. Norton, in which the plaintiffs sued the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in district …

Protection Of Human Rights Under Kosovo's Criminal Code And Criminal Procedure Code, Rexhep Murati Dec 2004

Protection Of Human Rights Under Kosovo's Criminal Code And Criminal Procedure Code, Rexhep Murati

Chicago-Kent Law Review

The Criminal Code and Criminal Procedural Code of Kosovo, together with other laws from the fields of criminal and procedural law, provide protection of human rights to all of Kosovo's citizens based on the most advanced international standards of human rights. The Criminal Code of Kosovo increases the number of human rights and freedoms that are protected by law. The most important human rights and freedoms that benefit from this protection are the right to life and security of the person; fundamental rights and freedoms; and the rights to honor, reputation, personal dignity, marriage, family, and health. In the Criminal …

Human Visual Processing Of Orientation In Broad Stimuli., Bruce C. Hansen Dec 2004

Human Visual Processing Of Orientation In Broad Stimuli., Bruce C. Hansen

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Recently our lab has shown that with broadband stimuli (either visual noise or natural scenes), performance for detecting oriented content is worst at horizontal, best at the obliques, and intermediate at vertical orientations--an anisotropy (termed the "horizontal effect") quite different from the well-known "oblique effect" (worst performance obliques) obtained with simple line or grating stimuli. This horizontal effect can be explained by a proposed anisotropic normalization model that operates at the level of striate cortex by implementing the known numerical biases of striate neurons preferring different orientations as well as the strength of those responses from neurons tuned to similar …

Adoption In The U.S.: The Emergence Of A Social Movement, Frances A. Dellacava, Norma Kolko Phillips, Madeline H. Engel

The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare

The Adoption Movement, which has been evolving in the U.S. since the late 1970s, is now fully formed. As a proactive, reformative social movement, adoption has reached the organizational, or institutional, stage. Evidence is seen in the roles assumed by government and voluntary agencies and organizations, as well as other systems in society, to support adoption, and in the extent to which adoption has been infused in the American culture, making it a part of our everyday landscape. Implications of the adoption movement for the helping professions are discussed, as is its impact on increasing cultural and racial diversity in …

Economic Analysis Prepared For The Environmental Impact Statement On Black-Tailed Prairie Dog Conservation And Management On The Nebraska National Forest And Associated Units, Martin Beutler

Economics Staff Paper Series (1969 - 2017)

This limited analysis resulted from a request by the Nebraska National Forest to provide some economic estimates to the value of changes in forage availability that would result from three proposed levels of rodenticide use in the management of black-tailed prairie dogs (BTPD) on the Nebraska National Forest (NNF) and associated units managed by NNF (i.e. Buffalo Gap National Grasslands, Ft. Pierre National Grasslands in South Dakota, and the Oglala National Grasslands in Nebraska.) The values of changes in forage availability were determined based on three alternatives of rodenticide use. These alternatives include: (1) limit use of rodenticides to only …
