The Urban/Suburban Wildlife Survey Volunteer Project, Larissa L. Smith
The Urban/Suburban Wildlife Survey Volunteer Project, Larissa L. Smith
Theses and Dissertations
This study examined attitudes of volunteers in the Urban/Suburban Volunteer Project. Volunteers for this project surveyed for bird species for the New Jersey Endangered and Nongame Species Program in Urban New Jersey areas. This project was considered unsuccessful by the Endangered and Nongame Species staff. By analyzing a volunteer project that was not as successful as hoped, volunteer managers can learn from this and apply the findings to their own projects. The purpose of this study was to find out what volunteers thought of the Urban/Suburban Volunteer Project.
Questionnaires were sent to the known population, a total of 25 questionnaires …

Flexible Recording/High Energy Electrode Catheter With Anchor For Ablation Of Atrial Flutter By Radio Frequency Energy, Chien-Suu Kuo, John G. Gurley
Internal Medicine Faculty Patents
An electrode catheter is provided having a predetermined flexibility throughout the entire length or at least at the contact portion, such as the electrode region, to allow for the molding of the contact portion such that it conforms to the shape of the heart at a preselected desired target area, such as the isthmus between the inlet of inferior vena cava and posterior tricuspid annulus. The catheter also includes a guiding sheath that is preferably semirigid and may be pre-shaped with at least one bend or angulation to assist in molding to ensure that the electrode region overlies the desired …

The Petrochina Syndrome: Regulating Capital Markets In The Anti-Globalization Era, Stephen F. Diamond
The Petrochina Syndrome: Regulating Capital Markets In The Anti-Globalization Era, Stephen F. Diamond
Cornell Law Faculty Working Papers
This article argues that the process of globalization has generated a legitimation deficit that can be the source of wasteful, even destructive, social and political conflict. I stylize this outcome as "the PetroChina Syndrome," after a leading example of the kind of activity generated in response to globalization, the PetroChina Campaign, where a coalition of labor, human rights, environmental, anti-slavery and religious groups worked together to oppose the initial public offering of a major Chinese oil company led by Goldman Sachs. The article begins with a discussion of this important but largely unexplored dimension of the anti-globalization era triggered by …

Lutetium Yttrium Orthosilicate Single Crystal Scintillator Detector, Bruce Chai, Yangyang Ji
Lutetium Yttrium Orthosilicate Single Crystal Scintillator Detector, Bruce Chai, Yangyang Ji
UCF Patents
A single crystal having the general composition, Ce.sub.2x (Lu.sub.1-y Y.sub.y).sub.2(1-x) SiO.sub.5 where x=approximately 0.00001 to approximately 0.05 and y=approximately 0.0001 to approximately 0.9999; preferably where x ranges from approximately 0.0001 to approximately 0.001 and y ranges from approximately 0.3 to approximately 0.8. The crystal is useful as a scintillation detector responsive to gamma ray or similar high energy radiation. The crystal as scintillation detector has wide application for the use in the fields of physics, chemistry, medicine, geology and cosmology because of its enhanced scintillation response to gamma rays, x-rays, cosmic rays and similar high energy particle radiation.

Batt Insulation Hold-Down Clips, Jeffrey Sonne
UCF Patents
Hold-down clips for insulation. The clips have U-shaped bases for wrapping about the exposed edges of framing members such as 2.times.4s, 2.times.6s, 2.times.8s, and 2.times.10s, and the like, that are used under roofs, ceilings, floors and walls. The clips have side extending arms that abut against the insulation materials and can include protruding portions which further press the insulation material in place. The U-shaped bases can further include inwardly protruding bent tabs, dimples, and spike portions for further locking the clips to the framing members. The clips can be easily installed without the need for tools such as hammers, nail …

Mwir And Lwir Spectral Signatures Of Water And Associated Materials, Herbert J. Mitchell, Carl Salvaggio
Mwir And Lwir Spectral Signatures Of Water And Associated Materials, Herbert J. Mitchell, Carl Salvaggio
Articles
Spectral infrared emissivity measurements have been made of a variety of materials both with and without surface water. The surface water was either natural, in the form of dew or residual rainwater, or artificially introduced by manual wetting. Materials naturally high in water content were also measured. Despite the rather diverse spectral population of the underlying materials, they exhibited very similar, featureless, water-like spectra; spectrally flat with a very high magnitude across the emissive infrared region. The implication to exploitation personnel that may use emissive infrared hyperspectral image data is that in areas where condensation is likely (e.g. high humidity) …
