Lest We Forget (MS-396)
Judy Leasure interviewed Paul Young about his work with the mentally ill and developmentally disabled. The interview was part of the Lest We Forget Collection of oral histories that was created to capture the stories of those involved with mental health and those with developmental disabilities. There are two transcripts to cover the full interview. The project focused on stories and experiences of people from Ohio that lived at, worked in, or dealt with large institutions and the modern movement to smaller home settings and modern treatment of mental illness and developmental disabilities.

He I Λ10830 As A Probe Of Winds In Accreting Young Stars, Suzan Edwards, William Fischer, John Kwan, L. Hillenbrand, Andrea K. Dupree

He I 10830 profiles acquired with Keck's NIRSPEC for six young low-mass stars with high disk accretion rates (AS 353A, DG Tau, DL Tau, DR Tau, HL Tau, and SVS 13) provide new insight into accretion-driven winds. In four of the stars, the profiles have the signature of resonance scattering, and they possess a deep and broad blueshifted absorption that penetrates more than 50% into the 1 m continuum over a continuous range of velocities from near the stellar rest velocity to the terminal velocity of the wind, unlike inner wind signatures seen in other spectral features. SimplePipe is a simulation framework/tool for analyzing performance effects of alternative task allocations in network processors having multiple pipelines where pipeline stages are either processors or dedicated hardware functions. Tasks are defined in terms of sequence of separate C program executions with each sequence representing the functional requirements of a flow, where a flow is defined as the set of packets having the same processing requirements. The assignment of tasks to pipeline stages, selection of number of stages, and determination of processor cache sizes are important designing decisions impacting performance.
