[1] In this paper we present the first early dry season (early June-early August) emission factor measurements for carbon dioxide (CO₂), carbon monoxide (CO), methane (CH₄), nonmethane hydrocarbons (NMHC), and particulates with a diameter less than 2.5 μm (PM_2.5) for southern African grassland and woodland fires. Seasonal emission factors for grassland fires correlate linearly with the proportion of green grass, used as a surrogate for the fuel moisture content, and are higher for products of incomplete combustion in the early part of the dry season compared with later in the dry season. TERMINATION OF MINOR'S PREGNANCY. MEDICAL EMERGENCY. PARENTAL NOTIFICATION OR JUDICIAL WAIVER. INITIATIVE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT AND STATUTE. Amends Constitution to provide that, except for medical emergency, or when waiver of notification has been obtained pursuant to state law, no abortion shall be performed upon an unemancipated minor until the physician notifies minor's parent or legal guardian. Statute provides definitions and authorizes monetary penalty and damages for violation. Statute permits minor to confidentially petition juvenile court for notification waiver based upon evidence of sufficient maturity, physical or sexual abuse by parent or guardian, or that notification is not in minor's best interests. …

PUBLICLY FUNDED, LICENSED SCHOOLS. INITIATNE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT. Establishes optional, alternative school system for grades kindergarten through twelve under which privately operated schools would be licensed and regulated by the Department of Consumer Affairs. These schools would not be subject to regulation by the Superintendent of Public Instruction. Requires state funding of these schools equal to public schools based upon enrollment. Schools could develop curricula and methodologies and deliver educational services subject to standards applicable to private schools. They would be prohibited from engaging in sectarian or denominational instruction and would be subject to all state and federal nondiscrimination laws. Summary …

Comparison Of Blood Parameters Associated With Exercise And The Total Antioxidant Power In Sled Dogs Supplemented With Blueberries, Kriya L. Dunlap

Chemistry and Biochemistry

Oxidative damage from free radicals plays an important role in several diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and heart disease. Research indicates that exercise may contribute to oxidative stress. Fruits, such as blueberries, are good antioxidants because they contain phenolics that preferentially react with free radicals. Maintaining antioxidant levels by supplementing the diet with blueberries may prevent exercise-induced oxidative damage. Additionally, oxidative damage from exercise can temporarily suppress the immune system. The goal of our study was to compare antioxidant levels in sled dogs supplemented with blueberries. Exacting Tests: Determining When A Taking Is Unconstitutional, John R. Nolon, Jessica A. Bacher

In the past, courts generally deferred to legislatures when determining whether a law constitutes a regulatory taking. However, not all regulations are treated equal, and different tests apply to different types of regulations. Types of land use actions with a lower threshold of constitutionally include exactions, and regulations that apply fixed fee schedules to private landowners. This article combs both federal and New York law to come to the clear determination that universal standards exist for each type of regulation.

The purpose of this curriculum and teacher activity guide is to provide Camden City School District's Environmental Center Program with a curriculum for kindergarten through fourth grade students. The curriculum provides students with site-based lessons and activities that are aligned and correlated with New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards for Science, and the Excellence in Environmental Education Guidelines For Learning (K - 12). The Site-Based Curriculum and Teacher Activity Guide, upon approval by the Camden City School District Board of Education, will provide students with guided discovery experiences that introduce new ideas, dispel misconceptions and reinforce previous learning.

The current study examined the barriers and perceptions of Welfare Reform of welfare recipients answering questions through a survey in Alaska's Northern Regional area (Appendix A). The areas covered in the survey concerned family health and well-being, barriers to getting a job, and how they are managing on and off welfare. An area of central concern was to understand how families reported that they were managing after closure. The major problem identified was the ability to pay monthly bills and purchase food. Families were also concerned with finding an appropriate childcare provider and their inability to obtain health care coverage. …

In rural Alaska, avoidance of dual relationships is impossible and may be culturally inappropriate; Alaska Native counselors live and work in communities where they are reared, educated, married, had children, and built their homes. These counselors have layers of relationships with relatives, friends and coworkers outside of the therapeutic alliance. In this study I interviewed six Alaska Native rural counselors and three clinical supervisors regarding the nature of their multi-faceted relationships, stressors of these on the counselor and ways of managing these stressors. Gas hydrates are solid inclusion compounds that are made up of ice and large amounts of guest gas molecules. Due to their abundance in nature and the ability to entrap large amounts of natural gas, progress towards tapping this energy resource is on the forefront of research.
