Phenological Responses Of Wheat And Barley To Water And Temperature: Improving Simulation Models, G. S. Mcmaster, Wally Wilhelm Nov 2003

Phenological Responses Of Wheat And Barley To Water And Temperature: Improving Simulation Models, G. S. Mcmaster, Wally Wilhelm

United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications

Understanding and predicting small-grain cereal development is becoming increasingly important in enhancing management practices. Recent efforts to improve phenology submodels in crop simulations have focused on incorporating developmental responses to water stress and interpreting and understanding thermal time. The objectives of the present study were to evaluate data from three experiments to (a) determine the qualitative and quantitative response of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) to water stress and (b) ascertain where in space to measure temperature, to provide information required to improve phenological submodels. The first experiment tested the phenological responses of 12 …

Chemokines In The Corpus Luteum: Implications Of Leukocyte Chemotaxis, David H. Townson, Amy R. Liptak Nov 2003

Chemokines In The Corpus Luteum: Implications Of Leukocyte Chemotaxis, David H. Townson, Amy R. Liptak

Molecular, Cellular & Biomedical Sciences

Chemokines are small Molecular weight peptides responsible for adhesion, activation, and recruitment of leukocytes into tissues. Leukocytes are thought to influence follicular atresia, ovulation, and luteal function. Many studies in recent years have focused attention on the characterization of leukocyte populations within the ovary, the importance of leukocyte-ovarian cell interactions, and more recently, the mechanisms of ovarian leukocyte recruitment. Information about the role of chemokines and leukocyte trafficking (chemotaxis) during ovarian function is important to understanding paracrine-autocrine relationships shared between reproductive and immune systems. Recent advances regarding chemokine expression and leukocyte accumulation within the ovulatory follicle and the corpus luteum …

Production of D*±(2010) mesons in diffractive deep inelastic scattering has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 82 pb-1. Diffractive events were identified by the presence of a large rapidity gap in the final state. Differential cross sections have been measured in the kinematic region 1.5

The Role Of Worldcat In Resources Sharing, Anna Perrault Nov 2003

The Role Of Worldcat In Resources Sharing, Anna Perrault

School of Information Faculty Publications

The 30th anniversary of WorldCat was celebrated in 2001. At that time, there were 45 million records with over 750 million location listings, spanning over 4,000 years of recorded knowledge in 377 languages. In the anniversary year, a bibliometric study was begun under the auspices of an OCLC/ALISE research grant. A 10% systematic random sample of the database was analyzed utilizing the OCLC iCAs software to profile the monographic contents of WorldCat by type of library, subject and language parameters. The profile reveals the extent of global publications made accessible through the OCLC international network. Several findings of the study …

Transport And Survival Of Water Quality Indicator Microorganisms In The Ground Water Environment Of Florida: Implications For Aquifer Storage And Waste Disposal, David E. John Nov 2003

Transport And Survival Of Water Quality Indicator Microorganisms In The Ground Water Environment Of Florida: Implications For Aquifer Storage And Waste Disposal, David E. John

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Ground water resources are heavily used for drinking water supply and often as a receptacle for waste water. One concern is the possible contamination of wetland areas by ground water receiving septic system infiltration. To investigate this, two tracer studies were performed using the bacteriophage PRD-1 by seeding septic systems adjacent to wetlands with the phage and monitoring migration towards wetland areas. Transport velocities were evaluated based on appearance of tracer in sampling wells at various distances from the injection point. Velocities were estimated to be 0.25 m/d and 0.4 m/d at the two sites. Some retardation with respect to …

Homosocial, Homoerotic, Bisexual, And Androgynous Bonds In Shakespeare’S Comedies, Klarisa Sokolovic-Cizmek Nov 2003

Homosocial, Homoerotic, Bisexual, And Androgynous Bonds In Shakespeare’S Comedies, Klarisa Sokolovic-Cizmek

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

In the thesis I inquire into the nature of the same-sex bonds in Shakespeare’s comedies. I discuss seven pairs of characters and demonstrate how in his comedies, Shakespeare first created homosocial relationships, later homoerotic relationships, then bisexual relationships, and, finally, a couple that may be described as androgynous. I demonstrate that in the early comedies the relationships are primarily homosocial and serve the purpose of self-realization. The self-realization includes reaching of a balance between a “feminine,” and a “masculine” self, with the goal of becoming a mature, androgynous human being. Although there are some homoerotic undercurrents in both the male …

Machine Learning Based Cdma Power Control, Chaouki T. Abdallah, Judd A. Rohwer, Christos G. Christodoulou Nov 2003

Machine Learning Based Cdma Power Control, Chaouki T. Abdallah, Judd A. Rohwer, Christos G. Christodoulou

Electrical & Computer Engineering Faculty Publications

This paper presents binary and multiclass machine learning techniques for CDMA power control. The power control commands are based on estimates of the signal and noise subspace eigenvalues and the signal subspace dimension. Results of two different sets of machine learning algorithms are presented. Binary machine learning algorithms generate fixed-step power control (FSPC) commands based on estimated eigenvalues and SIRs. A fixed-set of power control commands are generated with multiclass machine learning algorithms. The results show the limitations of a fixed-set power control system, but also show that a fixed-set system achieves comparable performance to high complexity closed-loop power control …
