Piezoresistive Properties Of Ito Strain Sensors Prepared With Controlled Nanoporosity, Otto J. Gregory, Tao You
Piezoresistive Properties Of Ito Strain Sensors Prepared With Controlled Nanoporosity, Otto J. Gregory, Tao You
Chemical, Biomolecular, and Materials Engineering Faculty Publications
A ceramic strain gage based on reactively sputtered indium-tinoxide (ITO) thin films is being developed to monitor the structural integrity of components employed in aerospace propulsion systems operating at temperatures in excess of 1500°C. The hightemperature stability and piezoresistive properties depend to a large extent on the thickness of the active ITO strain elements comprising these ceramic strain gages. Scanning electron microscopy of the thick ITO sensors revealed a partially sintered microstructure consisting of a contiguous network of submicrometer ITO particles with well-defined necks and isolated nanoporosity. It appeared that densification of the ITO particles was retarded during high-temperature exposure …
Pion-Kaon Correlations In Central Au+Au Collisions At √SNn=130 Gev, Star Collaboration, T.D. Gutierrez
Pion-Kaon Correlations In Central Au+Au Collisions At √SNn=130 Gev, Star Collaboration, T.D. Gutierrez
Physics
Pion-kaon correlation functions are constructed from central Au+Au STAR data taken at √sNN=130 GeV by the STAR detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The results suggest that pions and kaons are not emitted at the same average space-time point. Space-momentum correlations, i.e., transverse flow, lead to a space-time emission asymmetry of pions and kaons that is consistent with the data. This result provides new independent evidence that the system created at RHIC undergoes a collective transverse expansion.
Multi-Sensor Data Fusion Using Geometric Transformations For The Nondestructive Evaluation Of Gas Transmission Pipelines, Philip James Kulick
Multi-Sensor Data Fusion Using Geometric Transformations For The Nondestructive Evaluation Of Gas Transmission Pipelines, Philip James Kulick
Theses and Dissertations
Nondestructive evaluation (NDE) plays a vital component in the operation and maintenance of large infrastructure such as gas transmission pipelines, nuclear power plants, aircraft, bridges and highways, etc. As this infrastructure continues to age it is essential that the inspection techniques reliably and accurately predict the integrity of these systems. No single NDE method is capable of inspecting all types of anomalies and extracting all required information – a combination of methods must be used and the resulting data fused. Moreover, newer systems that are developed are often made of composite materials that include metals and dielectrics. One interrogation modality …

Prosecuting Martha: Federal Prosecutorial Power And The Need For A Law Of Counts, Michael L. Seigel, Christopher Slobogin
UF Law Faculty Publications
Martha Stewart's case illustrates a wide variety of prosecutorial decision-making. We have defended the U.S. Attorney's decision to investigate and prosecute Stewart, but called into question the further decision to charge her with five counts. As a way of curtailing the redundant charging phenomenon, which is widespread, we have suggested that the courts develop a law of counts to cabin prosecutorial charging discretion. Thus, our proposal to create a law of counts would not require prosecutors to act against their short- or long-term interests. Rather, it would be implemented by judges using the interpretive method, without going so far as …
Hdl Implementation Of A Controller Area Network Node, Anthony Richard Marino
Hdl Implementation Of A Controller Area Network Node, Anthony Richard Marino
Theses and Dissertations
With increasing technology inside automobiles, especially law enforcement vehicles, there is a growing need for centralized wiring and device interconnection methods. Each new technology, such as GPS navigation units and in-vehicle video systems, includes a corresponding wiring harness that needs installation. The summation of all these hardwired technologies leads to large volumes of wire that negatively affect safety, power demands, and future design opportunities. A new trend among automotive manufacturers is to design and implement innovative networks that allow for shared communications between technologies.
This thesis presents the design, development, and implementation of an in-vehicle network that will centralize connections …
Evaluation Of The Flail Space Model Utilizing Event Data Recorder Technology, Douglas John Gabauer
Evaluation Of The Flail Space Model Utilizing Event Data Recorder Technology, Douglas John Gabauer
Theses and Dissertations
Developed in the early 1980's, the flail space model has become the standard method for estimating occupant risk in full-scale crash tests involving roadside safety features. The widespread availability of airbags and increased seat belt usage rates in today's vehicle fleet, however, raise serious questions regarding the validity of the model. Recent implementation of Event Data Recorder (EDR) technology in a number of late model vehicles presents a different perspective on the assessment of the validity of occupant risk based on the flail space model. EDRs are capable of electronically recording data such as vehicle speed, brake status and throttle …
Insect Infestation Of Maize, Zea Mays (L.) In Indigenous Storage Structures In Morogoro Region, Tanzania, Cp Rugumamu
Insect Infestation Of Maize, Zea Mays (L.) In Indigenous Storage Structures In Morogoro Region, Tanzania, Cp Rugumamu
Tanzania Journal of Science
Insect infestations and losses of maize stored in four types of indigenous storage structures in Morogoro Region, Tanzania were investigated. Infestation levels and weight losses caused by the larger grain borer, Prostephanus truncatus (Horn) and the maize weevil, Sitophilus zeamais (Motsch.) were found to differ significantly in the four types of storage structures (Dari, Kihenge, Kichanja and Reli). Lower infestation levels by the two pests and less weight losses were observed inDari and Kihenge than in Kichanja and Reli. The infestations and weight losses exhibited a significant trend that was in the order, Dari< Kihenge < Kichanja < Reli. These findings suggest that Dari and Kihenge are more appropriate for the incorporation in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for P. truncatus and S. zeamais in Morogoro Region.

Antibacterial Activities Of Constituents From Isolona Cauliflora And Cleistochlamys Kirkii, Ac Odebode, Sjm Mdachi, Cc Joseph, Bn Irungu
Tanzania Journal of Science
Antibacterial activities of caulindole D, a mixture of caulindole E and F, pinocembrin and an oxyheptanoid (cleistenolide), obtained from stem barks of Isolona cauliflora and Cleistochlamys kirkii, on Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas phaseolicola were determined. An in vitro assay test by paper disc method showed that the caulindole D, E and F from Isolona cauliflora produced no inhibition zone on both bacteria pathogens at 100-200 ppm while cleistochlamic acid from C. kirkii showed weak to moderate inhibition zone at 100-200 ppm. At concentration above 200 ppm, the bacteria pathogens were inhibited by all the compounds isolated from the plant extracts. …
Ammonite Biostratigraphy Of The Jurassic Of Tanzania, S Kapilima
Ammonite Biostratigraphy Of The Jurassic Of Tanzania, S Kapilima
Tanzania Journal of Science
The present paper summarizes the previous biostratigraphical researches and incorporates the recent research findings on the Jurassic rocks in the coastal basin of Tanzania. The ammonites used for the biostratigraphical classification are from two sub-basins along the coastal belt of Tanzania: Mandawa (south) and Ruvu- Tanga (north). The oldest known ammonites from these basins are of Aalenian age. The biostratigraphical classification of the Jurassic sequence, on the basis of the vertical and horizontal distributions of the ammonite assemblages, permits the erection of eight sub stages of Jurassic: Upper Aalenian (Concavum-Zone), Bajocian (Humphrieasianum-Zone), Middle Callovian (Coronatum-Jason Zone), Upper Callovian (Lamberti-Athleta Zone), …
Bajocian Ammonites From Msata Hill (Lugoba Formation) In The Hinterland Of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, S Kapilima
Bajocian Ammonites From Msata Hill (Lugoba Formation) In The Hinterland Of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, S Kapilima
Tanzania Journal of Science
Ammonites from the Middle Jurassic exposures of the Lugoba Formation at Msata, are described for the first time in Tanzania. Out of a number of ammonite fragments recovered from the bluish-green silty limestone (M3), only three fragments were fairly well preserved to permit their specific identification. Two species were identified: Dorsetensia cf. D. romani (OPPEL) and Oecotraustes (Paroecotraustes?) cf. angustus DOUVILLE. This ammonite assemblage is biostratigraphically correlatable with the Lower Bajocian Posidonia shale of the Kambe Limestone series in Kenya, in which similar ammonites species and other related Bajocian species have been described. Pending new discovery of ammonoid fauna and …
Petrology And Lithogeochemistry Of The Mineralized Tanzanite-Grossular Bearings Rocks In The Merelani-Lelatema Area, Northeastern Tanzania, Ep Malisa
Tanzania Journal of Science
The Merelani-Lelatema area, which is occupied by late Proterozoic metasedimentary rocks, lies along the Lelatema fault zone. The rocks are mainly pelitic and semi-pelitic gneisses, psammitic gneisses, hydrothermally altered rocks, crystalline dolostones, pegmatites and quartz veins. The occurrence of gem-quality tanzanite and grossular has been found to occur mainly in boudinaged pegmatitic veins and hydrothermal fracture fillings. These fracture fillings occur in brecciated and hydrothermally altered graphite-bearing gneiss in a mineral association containing glass-clear quartz, diopside, zoisite, graphite and calcite. The psammitic gneisses are more siliceous and enriched in feldspars. They are grouped into graphite-kyanite gneiss with thin interlayers of …

Salt Balance, Fresh Water Residence Time And Budget For Non-Conservative Materials For Makoba Bay During Wet Season, As Ngusaru, Aj Mmochi
Tanzania Journal of Science
Water and salt budgets suggest that in order to balance the inflow and outflow of water at Makoba bay, there is net flux of water from the bay to the open ocean during wet season. Residual salt fluxes between the bay and the open ocean indicate advective salt export. Exchange of water between the bay with the open ocean plays a role of replacing exported salt via mixing. Calculated freshwater residence time for the bay is 63 days during wet season. Budget results for non-conservative materials indicate net DIP flux from the ocean to the bay and a net DIN …
Synthesis Of Some Cis-4,4-Dimethyl-2-Isopropenylcyclopentane Derivatives As Potential Intermediates Towards The Protoilludane Skeleton, Sjm Mdachi
Tanzania Journal of Science
The three gem-dimethyl-substituted cyclopentane derivatives 1-(2-propionyl)-4,4-dimethyl-2-isopropenylcyclopentane, 2-isopropenyl-4,4-dimethylcyclopentanecarboxyaldehyde and 1-hydroxy- methyl-2-isopropenyl-4,4-dimethylcyclopentane have been synthesized employing a thermally induced ene reaction as a key step. Each of the three compounds has been obtained predominantly as the cis isomer. The successful synthesis of these compounds affords opportunities for their further ellaboration towards sesquiterpenes of the protoilludane skeleton.

Development Of An Augmented Haptic Control For In-Vehicle Law Enforcement Applications, Edward R. Guest Iii
Theses and Dissertations
Typical police vehicles are filled with as much technology as the department can afford. Everything from the newest digital camera system to a simple entertainment radio is within the reach of an officer. Currently, most of these systems are installed without any consideration toward the other systems or the interaction required between the driver and the car. The lack of a systems approach in the installation has spawned a project to look at the safety and overall system installation in the New Jersey State Police vehicles.
The research presented in this thesis suggests consolidation of the various controls into one …
