The Arms Trade In Russian-Chinese Relations: Identity, Domestic Politics, And Geopolitical Positioning, Robert H. Donaldson, John A. Donaldson
The Arms Trade In Russian-Chinese Relations: Identity, Domestic Politics, And Geopolitical Positioning, Robert H. Donaldson, John A. Donaldson
Research Collection School of Social Sciences
Why would a declining power help arm a neighboring and once-hostile rising power? Current international relations literature cannot explain relationships in which one powerful country contributes directly to its long-term relative decline in order to make smaller, short-term gains. This study focuses on one example, the Treaty on Good Neighborly Friendship and Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China, signed in Moscow on July 16, 2001. Presenting evidence that this alliance embodies a relationship that is based primarily on sales of arms from Russia to China, the authors argue that this association cannot be explained by …

A Link With Nature: The Healing Of Soul, Kelly B. Kraehe
A Link With Nature: The Healing Of Soul, Kelly B. Kraehe
Theses and Dissertations - UTB/UTPA
This paper accompanies the Master of Fine Arts exhibition titled A Link With Nature. Art cannot divorce itself from its process, from its artist, and from becoming a product. Like the canopy, trunk and roots of a tree, the parts of art are mysteriously interdependent and would not exist alone. So too in my art, the artist, process, and product are woven together to form a visual tapestry that I have defined throughout the thesis paper. As artist, aesthetic experiences have formed the vision that I portray through painting and sculpture. The process of going places, seeing things and …
The Virtues Of Knowing Less: Justifying Privacy Protections Against Disclosure, Daniel J. Solove
The Virtues Of Knowing Less: Justifying Privacy Protections Against Disclosure, Daniel J. Solove
Duke Law Journal
This Article develops justifications for protections against the disclosure of private information. An extensive body of scholarship has attacked such protections as anathema to the Information Age, where the free flow of information is championed as a fundamental value. This Article responds to two general critiques of disclosure protections: (1) that they inhibit freedom of speech, and (2) that they restrict information useful for judging others. Regarding the free speech critique, the Article argues that not all speech is of equal value; speech of private concern is less valuable than speech of public concern. The difficulty, however, is distinguishing between …
A Report On An Arts Administration Internship With Tony Bravo Film Production, Michael Tapie
A Report On An Arts Administration Internship With Tony Bravo Film Production, Michael Tapie
Arts Administration Master's Reports (1984-2016)
In the spring of 1998, the recently acquired U.N.O. Studio Center was not being fully utilized. Aware of this situation, film director Francis James was contacted by Steve Hank, an instructor in the Department of Drama and Communication (DRCM) at the University of New Orleans, about a possible partnership with his independent production of Tony Bravo: Scenes From a Forgotten Cinema. Steve Hank felt the proposal had merit, so he arranged for Francis James to meet with a U.N.O. committee to explore a possible association, and to discuss the potential benefits that students would receive by training on a professional …

The Future Of The Australian-U.S. Security Relationship, Rod Lyon Dr., William T. Tow Prof.
The Future Of The Australian-U.S. Security Relationship, Rod Lyon Dr., William T. Tow Prof.
Books, Monographs & Collaborative Studies
The authors assess the future of the Australian-U.S. security relationship within the context of the Canberra's transformation and strategic shift. They conclude that this relationship will remain important and will be strengthened in some ways--interdependence will be central to Australian strategy--but they consider the building of large-scale American military bases in Australia unlikely. The challenge, they note, will be sustaining political support within Australian for this type of relationship.

Adult Esl Oral Reading Fluency And Silent Reading Comprehension, Kristin Lems
Adult Esl Oral Reading Fluency And Silent Reading Comprehension, Kristin Lems
Dissertations
A descriptive study of second language adults studying ESL at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels in a post-secondary academic program revealed that their oral reading fluency had a significant, low-to-moderate correlation with scores on a measure of silent reading comprehension. The correlation was slightly stronger for measures of accuracy than speed, and strongest for miscue ratio. The correlation increased as proficiency level increased. Among different first language groups, the correlation was highest for Hispanic learners, and lowest for Chinese. Furthermore, all fluency measures correlated better with a listening measure than with the silent reading comprehension measure. When a system …
Delinquent Recidivism And Diversion From Formal Juvenile Court Proceedings: A Cognitive Restructuring Approach, Robert James Amos Jr.
Delinquent Recidivism And Diversion From Formal Juvenile Court Proceedings: A Cognitive Restructuring Approach, Robert James Amos Jr.
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis takes a deductive approach by formulating and testing hypotheses, derived via theoretical proposition. A history of juvenile delinquency, delinquency intervention and development of the juvenile court is also presented and discussed. Social control theory is the main perspective in this study. Social learning theory is also a relevant perspective in this thesis.
Literature in this thesis indicates delinquent intervention has failed to reduce recidivism throughout history. A more effective form of intervention needs to implemented and examined pertaining to the influence of juvenile delinquency recidivism reduction Cognitive restructuring is a popular form of intervention today, which is assumed …
