Ellipsis In Science And Technology Textbooks In English: Implications For Thai Students, Sripen Srestasathiern
Ellipsis In Science And Technology Textbooks In English: Implications For Thai Students, Sripen Srestasathiern
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
This is an analytical study which attempted to investigate Thai students' ability to interpret elliptical sentences and to recover and recognise ellipted elements in a science and technology context in English. Students' awareness, understanding, perceptions, problems and strategies in relation to ellipsis were also examined. The subjects for the study were 60 first year students from King Mongkut's Institute of Technology North Bangkok (KMITNB) who had enrolled in two compulsory English courses in KMITNB, Bangkok, Thailand. The instruments for this study were three 20 item ellipsis tests based on 5 ellipsis types classified by Quirk, et al. (1985). Items of …
Non-Business Use Of The World Wide Web : A Study Of Selected Western Australian Organisations, Craig Valli
Non-Business Use Of The World Wide Web : A Study Of Selected Western Australian Organisations, Craig Valli
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
Employees undertake a wide range of activities when they use the World Wide Web in the work place. Some of these activities may leave the modem Internet connected organisation vulnerable to undue or unknown risk, potential productivity losses and expense us a result of misuse or abuse or the Internet provision. Much of the existing literature on this subject points to a purported epidemic of misuse in the workplace. If this practice is so prevalent and widespread, what can modem Internet connected organisations do to identify the abuse and reduce the risks and losses that these abuses represent? To what …
An Investigation Into Computer And Network Curricula, David Veal
An Investigation Into Computer And Network Curricula, David Veal
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
This thesis consists of a series of internationally published, peer reviewed, journal and conference research papers that analyse the educational and training needs of undergraduate Information Technology (IT) students within the area of Computer and Network Technology (CNT) Education. Research by Maj et al has found that accredited computing science curricula can fail to meet the expectations of employers in the field of CNT: “It was found that none of these students could perform first line maintenance on a Personal Computer (PC) to a professional standard with due regard to safety, both to themselves and the equipment. Neither could they …
Wavelet-Based Simulation Of Geological Variables, T. T. Tran
Wavelet-Based Simulation Of Geological Variables, T. T. Tran
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
This thesis introduces a number of conditional simulation algorithms using wavelet bases. These make use of two orthogonal wavelet bases, the Haar and the Db2 bases. Firstly, two single-level algorithms are introduced, HSIM: with the Haar basis and DB2SIM with the Db2 basis. HSIM reproduces the histogram and semivariogram model of isotropic samples but not the semivariogrnm model of anisotropic samples. DB2SIM reproduces the histogram and semivariogram model in both the isotropic and anisotropic cases but, because of the conditioning method employed, is not as computationally efficient as we would wish. Because of the limitations of HSIM and Db2SIM two …
Developing A Catalogue Of Errors And Evaluating Its Impact On Software Development, Indrit Troshani
Developing A Catalogue Of Errors And Evaluating Its Impact On Software Development, Indrit Troshani
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
The development of quality software is of paramount importance, yet this has been and continues to be an elusive goal for software engineers. Delivered software often fails due to errors that are injected during its development. Correcting these errors early in the development or preventing them altogether can, therefore, be considered as one way to improve software quality. In this thesis, the development of a Catalogue of Errors is described. Field studies with senior software engineering students are used to confirm that developers using the Catalogue of Errors commit fewer errors in their development artifacts. The impact of the Catalogue …
Database Development And Intranet Based Image Included Database Management System For Ballistic Firearm Identification System, Toni C. Jiao
Database Development And Intranet Based Image Included Database Management System For Ballistic Firearm Identification System, Toni C. Jiao
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
The process of imaging, collecting and searching a cartridge case to identifying its suspected firearm is a time consuming procedure. Within this study, a cartridge case identification database management system in an Intranet environment is designed and implemented, thus enabling firearm examiners from different forensic laboratories to engage firearm identification without the constraints of time and location. Specifically, the study investigates appropriate database management system for image involved and Intranet secured ballistics firearm identification database. The results demonstrated that a computerized firearm identification system could be implemented in Intranet with a secure, scalable, performable Intranet database management system.
Fame, Sex And Other Types Of Criminality, Rob Finlayson
Fame, Sex And Other Types Of Criminality, Rob Finlayson
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
This thesis consists of two parts. First, a novel manuscript titled 'Fame, Sex and Other Types of Criminality' and, second, an essay discussing ideas used in the creation of the novel.
The novel uses ironic and satiric devices to explore aspects of the culture of narcissism in contemporary Australia. The plot sees a group of characters set out to write a television show in order to achieve their individual goals. An underlying crime subplot results in the characters' desires being thwarted. The novel makes extensive use of references to philosophical, psychoanalytical and political texts to explore issues surrounding desire, the …

Proposed Statement Of Position : Accounting For Real Estate Time-Sharing Transactions Accounting For Real Estate Time-Sharing Transactions; Exposure Draft (American Institute Of Certified Public Accountants), 2003, Feb. 20, American Institute Of Certified Public Accountants. Accounting Standards Executive Committee
Exposure Drafts, Comment Letters, and Statements of Position
This Statement of Position (SOP) provides guidance on a seller's accounting for real estate time-sharing transactions. 1. For a time-sharing transaction to be accounted for as a sale, the transaction should meet the following criteria: a. The seller transfers nonreversionary title to the time-share. b. The transaction is consummated. c. The buyer makes cumulative payments (excluding interest) of at least 10 percent of the sales value of the time-share. d. Sufficient time-shares have been sold to reasonably assure that the units will not become rental property. If the seller does not transfer nonreversionary title, the transaction should be accounted for …
