Edmund S. Muskie Oral History Collection
William Brownlee Welsh was born in Munfordville, Kentucky, on September 18, 1924. His mother, Mary Cox Welsh, was in charge of dining halls at Berea College in Kentucky. His father, Benjamin Tibbetts Welsh, worked in a labor program in Berea. William grew up around Berea and eventually attended Berea College. Was Arthur Andersen Different?: An Empirical Examination Of Major Accounting Firms' Audits Of Large Clients, Theodore Eisenberg, Jonathan R. Macey
Was Arthur Andersen Different?: An Empirical Examination Of Major Accounting Firms' Audits Of Large Clients, Theodore Eisenberg, Jonathan R. Macey
Cornell Law Faculty Working Papers

Financial restatements trigger significant negative market reactions and their frequency can be viewed as a measure of accounting performance. We analyze the financial restatement activity of approximately 1,000 large, public firms from …

3d Molecular Structures: Patentable Subject Matter Under 35 U.S.C. §101?, Ben Quarmby
Duke Law & Technology Review
With the advent of protein engineering, the determination of a protein’s 3D structure has taken on a whole new importance. This has prompted some to call for the United States Patent and Trademark Office [USPTO] to break with tradition and allow patents on the three-dimensional structural information of proteins. This iBrief will discuss whether such information would constitute patentable subject matter under 35 U.S.C. §101, and how much protection patents on this information could actually confer.

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Throughout the history of the United States, Americans customarily have given away their money, as well as their time to serve the common good. Americans will give "to build something, to fight something, or to save something" (Fink, 1990, p. 136). They make gifts to causes, or the societal problems represented by organizational missions, that are important to them. Individuals give not only to advance a common good, but also to receive private goods, or benefits that are internal, intangible, and in some cases, tangible (Steinberg, 1989).
To create this feeling of reciprocity for prospective donors who have not actually …
