Portfolios, The Pied Piper Of Teacher Certification Assessments: Legal And Psychometric Issues, Judy R. Wilkerson, William Steve Lang
Education Policy Analysis Archives (EPAA)
Since about 90% of schools, colleges, and departments of education are currently using portfolios of one form or another as decision-making tools for standards-based decisions regarding certification or licensure (as well as NCATE accreditation), it is appropriate to explore the legal and psychometric aspects of this assessment device. The authors demonstrate that portfolios being used in a high-stakes context are technically testing devices and therefore need to meet psychometric standards of validity, reliability, fairness, and absence of bias. ...

The Anchor, Volume 117.13: December 3, 2003, Hope College
The Anchor: 2003
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

The Considerations Of The Superintendent In The Development Of The School Budget During Times Of Fiscal Constraint: A Case Study, Jeffrey Witt
Theses and Dissertations
John Smith is the superintendent of Green Hill Public Schools. This case study follows John through the whole budget process from July 2011 to July 2012. An interpretative perspective was used to tell his story. Ten interviews were given from October 2011 to July 2012. Newspaper articles and the minutes from meetings were analyzed and used as discussion items in the interview questions. This study was an analysis of how he made his budget decisions in a time of fiscal constraint and the role values played in the budget decision making. The budget year started out normal with John doing …

Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr Antitrust Series
Last spring there was growing concern in the wake of the Seventh Circuit’s decision in In re High Fruc-tose Corn Syrup1 that the courts might be adopting a more receptive attitude toward antitrust claims based on allegations of consciously parallel pricing and other behavior in highly concentrated industries. Three decisions in the last few months suggest that High Fructose Corn Syrup may remain an aberration and that most courts remain deeply skeptical of claims that seek to infer agreement from consciously parallel conduct without any hard evidence of conspiracy. Two of these three decisions, Williamson Oil Co., Inc. v. Phillip …

Attributes Associated With Probability Of Infestation By The Piñon Ips, Ips Confusus (Coleoptera: Scolytidae), In Piñon Pine, Pinus Edulis, José F. Negrón, Jill L. Wilson
Western North American Naturalist
We examined attributes of piñon pine (Pinus edulis) associated with the probability of infestation by piñon ips (Ips confuses) in an outbreak in the Coconino National Forest, Arizona. We used data collected from 87 plots, 59 infested and 28 uninfested, and a logistic regression approach to estimate the probability of infestation based on plot and tree-level attributes. Piñon pine stand density index was a good predictor of the likelihood of infestation by piñon ips at the plot level, and a cross-validation analysis confirmed that the model correctly classified 82% of the cases. Diameter at root collar …

Materials Science and Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
A method for forming a miniaturized shaped component. Bulk superplastic material is contacted with a flat rotating surface of a rotating tool to frictionally heat the bulk superplastic material with the bulk superplastic material positioned between the flat rotating surface of the tool and a micro fabricated tool die. The bulk superplastic material is forced into the microfabricated die once the bulk superplastic material is heated to a temperature between a glass transition temperature and a crystallization temperature.
