In the context of India, Genetic Engineering research and technology is well underway. The Government of India has issued statements indicating that India "will fully utilize the availability of genetic engineering resources ... for maximizing output besides working out a sustainable program ...." Between November 22, 1998 and March 21, 1999 no less than 32 stories of genetic engineering research or technology developments appeared in India media sources - particularly the PTI News Agency and the Inter-Press Service in Delhi.
