Basic And Advanced Competence In Collaborating With Clergy, Mark R. Mcminn, Daniel C. Aikins, R. Allen Lish
Basic And Advanced Competence In Collaborating With Clergy, Mark R. Mcminn, Daniel C. Aikins, R. Allen Lish
Faculty Publications - Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) Program
Some of the stories of psychologists and clergy working together have happy endings, and some do not. Twenty psychologists and clergy who work together well were interviewed, and 94 clergy (53% response rate) and 145 psychologists (76% response rate) were surveyed. A 2-tiered schema for working well with clergy is proposed. Basic collaborative qualifications, such as respect for clergy and communication with clergy as needed, should be considered minimal competence for all professional psychologists. Additional qualifications, such as awareness of religious spirituality and shared values, are necessary for more advanced forms of collaboration.

Depriving Washington State's Incarcerated Youth Of An Education: The Debilitating Effects Of Tunstall V. Bergeson, Jamie Polito Johnston
Seattle University Law Review
The analysis begins in Section II with a general overview and summary of Tunstall v. Bergeson. Section III presents a brief legislative background of the statute at issue in Tunstall, Education Programs for Juvenile Inmates, RCW section 28A.193. Section IV discusses Tunstall's misinterpretation of these statutory provisions, demonstrating the Education Programs for Juvenile Inmates' disregard of the paramount duty to provide education to youth under twenty-one pursuant to the Basic Education Act and violation of the Washington Constitution, as discussed in Section V. Next, Section VI argues that because the right to education is a fundamental right under state law, …

Individual Differences And Strategies For Human Reasoning, Alison Bacon
Individual Differences And Strategies For Human Reasoning, Alison Bacon
School of Psychology Theses
Theories of human reasoning have tended to assume cognitive universality, i. e. that all individuals reason in basically the same way. However, some research (e. g. that of Ford. 1995) has found evidence of individual differences in the strategies people use for syllogistic reasoning. This thesis presents a series of experiments which aimed to identify individual differences in strategies for human reasoning and investigate their nature and aetiology. Experiment 1 successfully replicated and extended Ford (1995) and provided further evidence that most individuals prefer to reason with either verbal-propositional or visuo-spatial representations. Data from verbal and written protocols showed that …

A Prescription For Gender: How Medical Professionals Can Help Secure Equality For Transgender People, Jennifer L. Levi
Faculty Scholarship
Transgender people have made tremendous legal gains in the last several years. We live in a period of rapid social change, hopefully approaching a time when transgender individuals and our families enjoy the same legal rights and privileges afforded to other members of society. However, we are not there yet. This essay discusses the role medical professionals must play if transgender people are to achieve full humanity in light of legal developments in the areas of employment and family law. Medical professionals are at the heart of directing and implementing policies that have an enormous effect on the lives of …

Erste Ergebnisse Eines Programms Zur Schulbasierten Prävention Von Depressiven Symptomen Bei Jugendlichen (First Results Of A School-Based Prevention Program Of Depressive Symptoms Among Adolescents)., Patrick Pössel, Andrea B. Horn, Martin Hautzinger
Faculty and Staff Scholarship
