Weighting Adjustments For Unit Nonresponse With Multiple Outcome Variables, Sonya L. Vartivarian, Rod Little
Weighting Adjustments For Unit Nonresponse With Multiple Outcome Variables, Sonya L. Vartivarian, Rod Little
The University of Michigan Department of Biostatistics Working Paper Series
Weighting is a common form of unit nonresponse adjustment in sample surveys where entire questionnaires are missing due to noncontact or refusal to participate. Weights are inversely proportional to the probability of selection and response. A common approach computes the response weight adjustment cells based on covariate information. When the number of cells thus created is too large, a coarsening method such as response propensity stratification can be applied to reduce the number of adjustment cells. Simulations in Vartivarian and Little (2002) indicate improved efficiency and robustness of weighting adjustments based on the joint classification of the sample by two …

Journal Articles: Regenerative Medicine
The SDF-1alpha/CXCR4 ligand/chemokine receptor pair is required for appropriate patterning during ontogeny and stimulates the growth and differentiation of critical cell types. Here, we demonstrate SDF-1alpha and CXCR4 expression in fetal pancreas. We have found that SDF-1alpha and its receptor CXCR4 are expressed in islets, also CXCR4 is expressed in and around the proliferating duct epithelium of the regenerating pancreas of the interferon (IFN) gamma-nonobese diabetic mouse. We show that SDF-1alpha stimulates the phosphorylation of Akt, mitogen-activated protein kinase, and Src in pancreatic duct cells. Furthermore, migration assays indicate a stimulatory effect of SDF-1alpha on ductal cell migration. Importantly, blocking …

Mentor Relationships In Clinical Psychology Doctoral Training: A National Survey Of Directors Of Training, Steven C. Dickinson
Mentor Relationships In Clinical Psychology Doctoral Training: A National Survey Of Directors Of Training, Steven C. Dickinson
Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)
The purpose of the present study was to investigate mentoring from the perspective of training directors. This study expands on the work of Clark, Harden and Johnson (I 998) who surveyed psychology doctoral students' experience of mentoring. Mentoring is "a personal relationship in which a more experienced (usually older) individual acts as a guide, role model, teacher, and sponsor of a less experienced (usually younger) protege" (Levinson, 1978, 333-334). The present study assessed the prevalence, importance and qualities of mentoring as reported by directors of training from APA-accredited (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) psychology doctoral programs. Directors of training from 194 APA …

Ecology Of Sceloporus Undulatus Speari (Sauria: Phrynosomatidae) From North-Central Chihuahua, Mexico, Julio A. Lemos-Espinal, Geoffrey R. Smith, Royce E. Ballinger, Hobart M. Smith
Papers in Herpetology
We studied the ecology of a population of Sceloporus undulatus speari from the Transmontane Sand Dune region of northern Chihuahua, México. Most of the individuals in our population used fence posts or yucca plants as perches and were only rarely seen on the ground. The majority of individuals in our population were seen in full sun, although a substantial number were in shade. Mean body temperature in our population was 35.2°C. Individuals first seen in full sun had lower Tbs than individuals first seen in shade. Lizards using different microhabitats (e.g., yucca vs. fence post) had different body …

It's Personal But Is It Mine? Toward Property Rights In Personal Information, Vera Bergelson
It's Personal But Is It Mine? Toward Property Rights In Personal Information, Vera Bergelson
Rutgers Law School (Newark) Faculty Papers
"It's Personal But Is It Mine? Toward Property Rights in Personal Information" discusses the disturbing erosion of privacy suffered by the American society in recent years due to citizens' loss of control over their personal information. This information, collected and traded by commercial enterprises, receives almost no protection under current law. I argue that, in order to protect privacy, individuals need to secure control over their information by becoming its legal owners. In this article, I confront two fundamental questions that have not been specifically addressed in the privacy literature before: why property is the most appropriate regime for regulating …
Understanding Why Adult Participants At The World Senior Games Choose A Healthy Diet, Ray M. Merrill, Eric C. Shields
Understanding Why Adult Participants At The World Senior Games Choose A Healthy Diet, Ray M. Merrill, Eric C. Shields
Faculty Publications
Identifying those seniors most likely to adopt a healthy diet, the relative importance they place on certain perceived benefits associated with a healthy diet, and whether these perceived benefits are associated with selected demographic, lifestyle, and health history variables is important for directing effective dietary health promotion programs. Methods: Analyses are based on a cross-sectional convenience sample of 670 seniors aged 50 years and older at the 2002 World Senior Games in St. George, Utah. Data are assessed using frequencies, bivariate analysis, analysis of variance, and multiple logistic regression analysis. Results Fruit and vegetable consumption was significantly higher in individuals …
