Gaze-Centered Updating Of Visual Space In Human Parietal Cortex., W Pieter Medendorp, Herbert C Goltz, Tutis Vilis, J Douglas Crawford
Brain and Mind Institute Researchers' Publications
Single-unit recordings have identified a region in the posterior parietal cortex (PPC) of the monkey that represents and updates visual space in a gaze-centered frame. Here, using event-related functional magnetic resonance imaging, we identified an analogous bilateral region in the human PPC that shows contralateral topography for memory-guided eye movements and arm movements. Furthermore, when eye movements reversed the remembered horizontal target location relative to the gaze fixation point, this PPC region exchanged activity across the two cortical lobules. This shows that the human PPC dynamically updates the spatial goals for action in a gaze-centered frame.

Serial Murder In Institutional Settings, Jennifer D. Grine
Serial Murder In Institutional Settings, Jennifer D. Grine
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This research explored the topic of professional caregivers who commit serial murder in institutional settings. In-depth case studies were created for individuals convicted of serial murder in institutional settings in the United States. The purpose of this research was to identify the characteristics of this group of institutional serialists and compare the current data to existing data on serial killers. A technique of secondary data analysis was utilized to gather information on the sample of 17 individuals. Only public information was reviewed. Results of the data comparison between the current sample and existing information on serial killers indicated that institutional …

The New Eu Regulation On Gmos: Causes And Consequences, Konstantinos Giannakas
Cornhusker Economics
On July 2 the European Parliament approved a new regulation governing Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) that includes a requirement for products with more than 0.9 percent of biotech material to be labeled as: “This product is produced with GMOs.” The regulation also includes provisions for tracing GMOs at all stages of production. The regulation is expected to be approved by the Council of Ministers of Agriculture and pass into law before the end of the summer. The introduction of strict traceability and labeling requirements by the European Union (EU) is the latest event in an on-going dispute between the EU …

Herbivore Abundance In Simple And Diverse Habitats: The Direct And Indirect Effects Of Plant Diversity And Habitat Structure, Laura F. Altfeld
Herbivore Abundance In Simple And Diverse Habitats: The Direct And Indirect Effects Of Plant Diversity And Habitat Structure, Laura F. Altfeld
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Herbivore abundances are determined by a set of interacting factors that vary among different habitat types. Specifically, herbivore abundances in monocultures and polycultures may be governed by the same set of factors but with varying influences in the different habitats. In addition, monophagous and polyphagous herbivores may respond differently to the same set of influencing factors. I examined several abiotic and biotic factors in manipulated monocultures and polycultures of Borrichia frutescens in a west central Florida salt marsh. The experimental plots differed in both plant diversity and aboveground habitat structure to see how each component of diversity contributed to variability …
Developing Organizational Development: Alienation And Organizing In The Age Of Information, Robert D. Kreisher
Developing Organizational Development: Alienation And Organizing In The Age Of Information, Robert D. Kreisher
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Modernism is characterized by alienation from one's self and the processes by which one's self gets constructed. Organizational development (OD) is an activity that attempts to address the experience of work and to transform the historical alienation.
OD practitioners are often optimistic that this transformation is possible and even is happening in the day-to-day work of OD. A group of critics, mostly academics, are skeptical about whether any real transformation is possible, arguing that OD practices are misguided extensions of modernism. In one thread of the OD literature, authors build an argument for the centrality of issues of identity in …

French Quality And Eco-Labeling Schemes: Do They Also Benefit The Environment?, Thomas Dobbs, Genevieve Nquyen, Sherry Bertramsen, Bruno Legagneux
Economics Staff Paper Series (1969 - 2017)
In this paper, results are reported for analyses we recently conducted to examine the environmental effects of major 'quality' and 'eco-labeling' schemes in use in the Midi-Pyrenees region of the south of France. Schemes analyzed are described in the next section. Following that, the data and methods of analysis are explained. Next, results of statistical analyses are presented. These results are complemented by qualitative results drawn from in-depth case studies of three food quality schemes. Conclusions and policy implications are presented in the last section of the paper.
