Contract Governance And The Canadian Public Sector, Suzan M. Ilcan, Daniel M. O’Connor, Marcia L. Oliver Oct 2003

Contract Governance And The Canadian Public Sector, Suzan M. Ilcan, Daniel M. O’Connor, Marcia L. Oliver

Law and Society

This essay examines the changing character of public sector work in the Canadian federal public service context. It is based on an empirical examination of various forms of contractual relations currently operative within the Canadian state and on a comparative approach of other western liberal state reform initiatives. We argue that contract governance is an ongoing process involving distinct interrelations between the public and private sectors. The Slipperiness Of Stability: Contracting For Flexible And Triangular Employment Relationships In The New Economy, Orly Lobel Oct 2003

The Slipperiness Of Stability: Contracting For Flexible And Triangular Employment Relationships In The New Economy, Orly Lobel

Texas Wesleyan Law Review

This Article argues for the need for new laws and adequate guidelines for today's flexible staffing arrangements. Flexible employment arrangements in the new market are simultaneously efficiency-driven and developed through continuous political and legal action. While the employment agency industry is potentially a welfare-enhancing sector in certain environments, it also produces new forms of mistreatment of workers in the absence of adequate regulatory incentives. These new economic structures necessitate the development of a new normative model that allows certain forms of market flexibility yet maintains the social norms that continue to inform fair employment policies. Part II of this Article …

Linking Of Errata: Current Practices In Online Physical Sciences Journals, Emily L. Poworoznek Oct 2003

Linking Of Errata: Current Practices In Online Physical Sciences Journals, Emily L. Poworoznek

University Library Scholarship

Reader awareness of article corrections can be of critical importance in the physical and biomedical sciences. Comparison of errata and corrigenda in online versions of high-impact physical sciences journals across titles and publishers yielded surprising variability. Of 44 online journals surveyed, 14 had no links between original articles and later corrections. When present, hyperlinks between articles and errata showed patterns in presentation style, but lacked consistency. Variability in the presentation, linking, and availability of online errata indicates that practices are not evenly developed across the field. Comparison of finding tools showed excellent coverage of errata by Science Citation Index, lack …
