A total of 576 surveys were returned for an effective response rate of 38%. Collected data were entered into an SPSS database. The data revealed most respondents had been using the Internet for over 5 years, and accessed the Internet almost everyday. Data also revealed that …

Law School Branding And The Future Of Legal Education, Michael S. Ariens Jan 2003

Law School Branding And The Future Of Legal Education, Michael S. Ariens

Faculty Articles

It is too early to determine if law school branding will have a positive or a negative effect on legal education. A recent shift in legal education has led law schools to consciously brand themselves, claiming an educational distinctiveness in selling their services to consumers. Branding is an attempt to create a desire in targeted prospective students to join the branded law school. Although a law school may brand itself by claiming it delivers an excellent legal education, branding is about distinctiveness, not quality. Law schools have used a number of approaches to attract students, including aggressive marketing of a …

Developing Methods For The Rapid Molecular Assessment Of Aquatic Microbial Communities, Traci D. Hudson Jan 2003

Developing Methods For The Rapid Molecular Assessment Of Aquatic Microbial Communities, Traci D. Hudson

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

Molecular investigations of microbial community structure and dynamics involve costly and time-consuming methods. This approach is limiting when rapid assessment and detection of microbial organisms are needed. In aquatic environments, especially freshwater environments which may be used as a water source, rapid detection of pathogenic microbes is essential. Likewise, monitoring for the presence or absence of various functional genes can be used to indicate the type of microbial community present in the environment of interest. Therefore, the aim of this study was to develop and optimize methods necessary for the rapid assessment of freshwater microbial community structure and dynamics. Primers …

Department of Animal Science: Faculty Publications

A whole genome scan of Finnish Ayrshire was conducted tomap quantitative trait loci (QTL) affecting milk production. The analysis included 12 half-sib families containing a total of 494 bulls in a granddaughter design. The families were genotyped with 150 markers to construct a 2764 cM (Haldane) male linkage map. In this study interval mapping with multiple-marker regression approach was extended to analyse multiple chromosomes simultaneously. The method uses identified QTL on other chromosomes as cofactors to increase mapping power. The existence of multiple QTL on the same linkage group was also analyzed by fitting a two-QTL model to the analysis. …

Chemotactic Role Of Neurotropin 3 In The Embryonic Testis That Facilitates Male Sex Determination, Andrea S. Cupp, Mehmet Uzumcu, Michael F. Skinner Jan 2003

Chemotactic Role Of Neurotropin 3 In The Embryonic Testis That Facilitates Male Sex Determination, Andrea S. Cupp, Mehmet Uzumcu, Michael F. Skinner

Department of Animal Science: Faculty Publications

The first morphological event after initiation of male sex determination is seminiferous cord formation in the embryonic testis. Cord formation requires migration of pre-peritubular myoid cells from the adjacent mesonephros. The embryonic Sertoli cells are the first testicular cells to differentiate and have been shown to express neurotropin-3 (NT3), which can act on highaffinity trkC receptors expressed on migrating mesonephros cells. NT3 expression is elevated in the embryonic testis during the time of seminiferous cord formation. A trkC receptor tyrophostin inhibitor, AG879, was found to inhibit seminiferous cord formation and mesonephros cell migration. Beads containing NT3 were found to directly …

Annual Anti-Trafficking Reports To Congress - 2002, U.S. Department Of Health And Human Services

Human Trafficking: Data and Documents

Trafficking in persons is modern day slavery. The trafficking of women, children, and men for sexual exploitation, sweatshop labor, involuntary domestic servitude, and migrant agricultural labor violations is estimated to affect hundreds of thousands of people worldwide annually – and tens of thousands in the United States alone. The practice of trafficking in persons is not only an affront to human dignity but also flouts the laws of legitimate commerce.

G03-1523 Low Toxic Cockroach Control, Barbara P. Ogg, Clyde L. Ogg Jan 2003

G03-1523 Low Toxic Cockroach Control, Barbara P. Ogg, Clyde L. Ogg

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

This NebGuide describes how to identify common cockroach species, what they need to survive, and effective, low-toxic alternatives to traditional chemical control options.

Some people see a cockroach and immediately grab a can of bug spray, but a quick spray from an aerosol can won't provide long-term control. Ingredients in most aerosol and "bomb" treatments repel cockroaches. Using these products can cause the cockroaches to hide deeper inside walls and be more difficult to control later. To make the most of your efforts to control cockroaches, use a multiple tactic approach. First, you need to understand a little about the …
