Review Of Mannerism And Baroque In Seventeenth-Century French Poetry: The Example Of Tristan L’Hermite, By James C. Shepard, Russell J. Ganim
Review Of Mannerism And Baroque In Seventeenth-Century French Poetry: The Example Of Tristan L’Hermite, By James C. Shepard, Russell J. Ganim
French Language and Literature Papers
Interest in Tristan L’Hermite has not only been sustained, but has grown considerably since 1955, when Amédée Carriat published Tristan ou L’Eloge d’un poète and his Bibliographie des oeuvres de Tristan L’Hermite. Carriat’s work on the Cahiers Tristan L’Hermite, as well as the scholarship of Claude Abraham, Catherine Grisé, and Jean-Pierre Chauveau among others, has laid the groundwork for a number of new inquiries into Tristan’s oeuvre. Colloquia on Tristan have been organized in France and the U.S. in recent years, and the Tristan “revival” reached an apex of sorts in 1999 with Champion’s publication of his Oeuvres complètes …
The Osteogenic Effects Of 12 Weeks Of Oral Supplementation Of Androstenedione In Middle-Aged Men., Troy Matthew Wills
The Osteogenic Effects Of 12 Weeks Of Oral Supplementation Of Androstenedione In Middle-Aged Men., Troy Matthew Wills
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Recent evidence suggests that declining bone mineral density (BMD) in males is related to declining circulating estrogens. The majority of endogenous plasma estrogens in males result from peripheral aromatization of plasma androgens. Thus, it was hypothesized that dietary supplementation with an aromatizable androgen (androstenedione) may stimulate increases in BMD.
BMD (measured by dual energy x-ray absorptiometry) and biochemical markers of bone turnover (1, 25 OH2 Vitamin D, calcitonin, deoxypyrodinoline, and parathyroid hormone) were assessed before and after 12 weeks of dietary androstenedione supplementation (200 mg/d). Twenty-four volunteers were randomized into either an androstenedione supplementation or placebo groups. Study volunteers also …
A Comparison Of Bioaccumulation And Digestive Enzyme Solubilization Of Copper In Two Species Of Sea Cucumbers With Different Feeding Habits., John W. Bundridge
A Comparison Of Bioaccumulation And Digestive Enzyme Solubilization Of Copper In Two Species Of Sea Cucumbers With Different Feeding Habits., John W. Bundridge
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The mode of feeding exhibited by different organisms may influence the form or quantity of copper that is bioaccumulated. This hypothesis has been tested by exposing 2 species of sea cucumbers, Pentacta anceps and Stichopus chloronotus, which possess different feeding modes, to varying concentrations of copper.
The digestive tract and body wall were dissected and analyzed for copper concentration using atomic absorption spectroscopy. A trend was present, exhibiting a small dose dependent curve. The results did not show a significant difference between species or treatments. This study indicates that feeding mode may influence the amount of copper accumulated but …
Perceived Effectiveness Of Conflict Management Strategies In Dating Relationships., Jaime Ann Counts
Perceived Effectiveness Of Conflict Management Strategies In Dating Relationships., Jaime Ann Counts
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of the present study was to determine how college participants view the success of different conflict management strategies: chance, manipulation, compliance, and confrontation. The success of the conflict management strategies was evaluated by how participants rated female satisfaction, male satisfaction, likelihood of marriage and success of marriage. A MANOVA, and a Roy Bargman step-down procedure were conducted on all dependent variables. A Tukey HSD post hoc test was ran to reveal which conflict management strategies differed from one another. Results indicated that participants thought women were less satisfied than men. For male satisfaction and likelihood of marriage, post …
Sex And Pottery: Erotic Images On Athenian Cups, 600-300 B.C., Michael Lee Banner
Sex And Pottery: Erotic Images On Athenian Cups, 600-300 B.C., Michael Lee Banner
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Many pages have been written concerning erotic images on Greek vases but few studies have focused on the frequency of erotic images. This is an important concept in determining the significance of the erotic images. Various Athenian cups from the online holdings of the Beazley Archive were investigated, using simple tabulations and Chi-square analysis, for erotic images. Out of 7901 cups only 130 had erotic images. As cups with erotic images represented only a small portion of the sample it was likely that they only appealed to the tastes of a small sub-set of the Athenian population. The context of …
Police Officers' Perception Of The Validity Of The General Theory Of Crime., William Jaison Giesler
Police Officers' Perception Of The Validity Of The General Theory Of Crime., William Jaison Giesler
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study measured police officers perception of the validity of General Theory of Crime. Using a sample of 117 officers and an adapted version of the Grasmick et al. (1993) self-control scale, this study measures the level of agreement officers exhibit that low self-control traits are present in property and violent offenders. Measurement is also performed to determine variation in officers agreement based on the personal characteristics gender, age, education, experience, and rank.
Findings indicate officers show agreement with self-control items across the six dimensions of self control traits, as well as significant variation in agreement with the property offender …
Dying To Get Out Of Debt: Consumer Insolvency Law And Suicide In Japan, Mark West
Dying To Get Out Of Debt: Consumer Insolvency Law And Suicide In Japan, Mark West
Law & Economics Working Papers Archive: 2003-2009
This Article explores the complex relation between consumer insolvency law and suicide in Japan, where bankruptcies and suicides have increased dramatically in recent years. The statistical and interview evidence, some of which relates to the creation of a relatively efficient and socially acceptable insolvency mechanism in 2001, suggests that law is at least indirectly relevant to decisions to take one’s own life. Law can bring about debt control and stigma mitigation, each of which can lead to lower levels of stress and depression, each of which can lead to lower suicide rates. Still, responses to the law, even in relatively …
Employment Market Institutions And Japanese Working Hours, Mark West
Employment Market Institutions And Japanese Working Hours, Mark West
Law & Economics Working Papers Archive: 2003-2009
Why do Japanese workers work such long hours? Beginning with a series of cases in the 1950s, Japanese courts drastically curtailed firms’ abilities to dismiss workers. As a consequence of the inability to dismiss workers legally, large Japanese firms hired a smaller number of workers than were necessary to fulfill capacity without overtime. Employers rely on the working hours of this undersized cadre of workers, carefully screened to rule out the slothful, as a buffer. In bad times, the size of the work force makes dismissal unnecessary. In good times, workers are forced to work long hours. While these court …

Stewart Park & Reserve Coalition V. Slater, 352 F. 3d 545 - Court Of Appeals, 2nd Circuit 2003, Roger J. Miner '56
Circuit Court Opinions
Plaintiffs-appellants commenced the action giving rise to this appeal seeking a declaration that defendants-appellees had violated various federal and state environmental and transportation laws in approving a proposed project to construct an interchange connecting an interstate highway to an airport. On cross motions for summary judgment, the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York (Treece, M.J.)[1] dismissed the action upon a finding that defendants-appellees had complied with all relevant federal and state laws. See Stewart Park & Reserve Coalition, Inc. v. Slater, 225 F.Supp.2d 219 (N.D.N.Y.2002) ("SPARC I").

Measurement Of Prompt Charm Meson Production Cross Sections In Pp̅ Collisions At √S=1.96 Tev, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration
Kenneth Bloom Publications
We report on measurements of differential cross sections d /dpT for prompt charm meson production in pp̅ collisions at √s=1.96 TeV using 5.8±0.3 pb-1 of data from the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The data are collected with a new trigger that is sensitive to the long lifetime of hadrons containing heavy flavor. The charm meson cross sections are measured in the central rapidity region |y|≤1 in four fully reconstructed decay modes: D0→K- π+, D*+→D0 π+, D+→K- π+ π+, …

United States Fish and Wildlife Service: Publications
LBCUs are a species of special concern throughout much of their breeding range in North America, with both the U.S. and Canadian Shorebird Plans listing them as “Highly Imperiled” (Brown et al. 2001). LBCUs are also listed in the U.S. as a Bird of Conservation Concern, at the National level, within FWS Regions 1, 2, 4 and 6, and for many Bird Conservation Regions (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service 2002). This level of concern is due to apparent population declines, particularly in the shortgrass and mixed-grass prairie of the western Great Plains (Brown et al. 2001). Threats include habitat loss …
