Scheduling Of 2-Operation Jobs On A Single Machine To Minimize The Number Of Tardy Jobs, Radhika M. Yeleswarapu Nov 2003

Scheduling Of 2-Operation Jobs On A Single Machine To Minimize The Number Of Tardy Jobs, Radhika M. Yeleswarapu

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This study focuses on the study of a unique but commonly occurring manufacturing problem of scheduling of customized jobs consisting of two operations on a single multi-purpose machine with the performance objective of minimizing the number of tardy jobs (jobs that are not completed by their due dates). Each customized job to be complete needs one unique operation and one common operation performed on it. We considered a static case in this work. The objective of minimizing the number of tardy jobs is considered where all jobs have equal weights and the maximum tardiness has no effect on the performance. …

Self-Interference Handling In Ofdm Based Wireless Communication Systems, Tevfik Yücek Nov 2003

Self-Interference Handling In Ofdm Based Wireless Communication Systems, Tevfik Yücek

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is a multi-carrier modulation scheme that provides efficient bandwidth utilization and robustness against time dispersive channels. This thesis deals with self-interference, or the corruption of desired signal by itself, in OFDM systems. Inter-symbol Interference (ISI) and Inter-carrier Interference (ICI) are two types of self-interference in OFDM systems. Cyclic prefix is one method to prevent the ISI which is the interference of the echoes of a transmitted signal with the original transmitted signal. The length of cyclic prefix required to remove ISI depends on the channel conditions, and usually it is chosen according to the worst …

Physiological Responses Of Thalassia Testudinum And Ruppia Maritima To Experimental Salinity Levels, Donna M. Berns Nov 2003

Physiological Responses Of Thalassia Testudinum And Ruppia Maritima To Experimental Salinity Levels, Donna M. Berns

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Thalassia testudinum, a stenohaline seagrass species, and Ruppia maritima, a euryhaline submerged aquatic vegetation species, were subjected to the same seven salinity levels (0 - 60) in a controlled environment. The response variables examined were the occurrence of leaf discoloration, plant growth rates, photosynthetic characteristics of blade segments (Pmax, respiration, alpha, and Ik), and osmolality changes within the plant tissues. These response variables were measured at exposure times of one, seven, and 28 days.

Greater than 75% leaf discoloration occurred in Thalassia testudinum blades placed in 0, and 60 psu, while Ruppia maritima blades …

A Corrected Pseudo-Score Approach For Additive Hazards Model With Longitudinal Covariates Measured With Error, Xiao Song, Yijian Huang

UW Biostatistics Working Paper Series

In medical studies, it is often of interest to characterize the relationship between a time-to-event and covariates, not only time-independent but also time-dependent. Time-dependent covariates are generally measured intermittently and with error. Recent interests focus on the proportional hazards framework, with longitudinal data jointly modeled through a mixed effects model. However, approaches under this framework depend on the normality assumption of the error, and might encounter intractable numerical difficulties in practice. This motivates us to consider an alternative framework, that is, the additive hazards model, under which little has been done when time-dependent covariates are measured with error. We propose …

Was Arthur Andersen Different?: An Empirical Examination Of Major Accounting Firms' Audits Of Large Clients, Theodore Eisenberg, Jonathan R. Macey Nov 2003

Was Arthur Andersen Different?: An Empirical Examination Of Major Accounting Firms' Audits Of Large Clients, Theodore Eisenberg, Jonathan R. Macey

Cornell Law Faculty Working Papers

Enron and other corporate financial scandals focused attention on the accounting industry in general and on Arthur Andersen in particular. Part of the policy response to Enron, the criminal prosecution of Andersen, eliminated one of the few major audit firms capable of auditing many large, public corporations. This article explores whether Andersen’s performance, as measured by frequency of financial restatements, measurably differed from that of other large auditors. Financial restatements trigger significant negative market reactions and their frequency can be viewed as a measure of accounting performance. We analyze the financial restatement activity of approximately 1,000 large, public firms from …
