Search For The Flavor-Changing Neutral Current Decay D0→Μ +Μ - In Pp̅ Collisions At √S =1.96 Tev, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We report on a search for the flavor-changing neutral current decay D0→µ+µ- in pp̅ collisions at √s =1.96 TeV using 65 pb-1 of data collected by the CDF II experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. A displaced-track trigger selects long-lived D0 candidates in the D0→µ+µ- search channel, the kinematically similar D0→ π+ π- channel used for normalization, the Cabibbo-favored D0→ K-π+ channel used to optimize the selection criteria in an unbiased manner, and their charge conjugates. Finding no signal …

It's Personal But Is It Mine? Toward Property Rights In Personal Information, Vera Bergelson Nov 2003

It's Personal But Is It Mine? Toward Property Rights In Personal Information, Vera Bergelson

Rutgers Law School (Newark) Faculty Papers

"It's Personal But Is It Mine? Toward Property Rights in Personal Information" discusses the disturbing erosion of privacy suffered by the American society in recent years due to citizens' loss of control over their personal information. This information, collected and traded by commercial enterprises, receives almost no protection under current law. I argue that, in order to protect privacy, individuals need to secure control over their information by becoming its legal owners. In this article, I confront two fundamental questions that have not been specifically addressed in the privacy literature before: why property is the most appropriate regime for regulating …

Thoughts On Fragility And Impermanence, Elizabeth Howe Nov 2003

Thoughts On Fragility And Impermanence, Elizabeth Howe

Theses

This thesis project consists of two sections. The first of these sections is the creation of four physically separate, conceptually linked sculptures installed in the Dyer Arts Center Gallery in the Lyndon B. Johnson building on the Rochester Institute of Technology campus. The latter part of the project exists in the form of this written thesis, which will explore various concepts, processes and concerns associated with the individual sculptures and the prevailing ideas inherent to them all. Within both the sculptural work and the written work I am exploring the fragility and vulnerability of being human. The reality of impermanence …

On The Green Vol. 34 No. 4 November 21, 2003, Gallaudet University

2001-2010

On the Green is an internal publication of Gallaudet College, which later became Gallaudet University. A Comparison Of Clearcut And Shelterwood Harvesting Effects On Understory Vegetation In Central Virginia Piedmont Forests, Lorelei J. Hartman Nov 2003

A Comparison Of Clearcut And Shelterwood Harvesting Effects On Understory Vegetation In Central Virginia Piedmont Forests, Lorelei J. Hartman

Theses & Honors Papers

I compared clearcutting and shelterwood harvesting effects on all understory vegetation (woody and nonwoody) in Piedmont hardwood forests. Clearcutting and shelterwood harvesting are both even.-aged management practices, put in contrast to clearcutting, the shelterwood method retains selected trees as partial canopy. The retained canopy is reported to be beneficial to desired tree species and restrict competition of undesired tree species, grasses and shrubs.·Research comparing the shelterwood method to clearcutting has been limited , particularly in hardwood forests. We collected data on understory plant communities in clearcut, low-leave shelterwood, and mature forest sites (not harvested in

at least 100 years). Percent …

Worldcom As An Example Of Creative Accounting And Subsequent Regulations Of The Accounting Industry, Lisa E. Tarras Nov 2003

Worldcom As An Example Of Creative Accounting And Subsequent Regulations Of The Accounting Industry, Lisa E. Tarras

USF St. Petersburg campus Honors Program Theses (Undergraduate)

The public has long viewed corporate America as ruthless pillagers in the name of profits. Today corporations are blamed for everything from eliminating mom and pop stores and the family farm to draining the environment in the process. Yet somehow no one, congressmen or minimum wage workers alike, were concerned enough to address this brewing epidemic. In the bull market of the 1990's, no one cared what corporations had to do to create profits, as long as those profits, and subsequent dividends and stock options financed their retirement funds. However, the corporate environment is much different today.

All Linear Optical Quantum Memory Based On Quantum Error Correction, Robert M. Gingrich, Pieter Kok, Hwang Lee, Farrokh Vatan, Jonathan P. Dowling

Faculty Publications

An error-correction scheme that encodes an unknown two-photon state into four photons, up to one of which can be lost in the transmission is presented. Such a device acts as a simple repeater or quantum transponder when it is placed in series, and it acts as an optical quantum memory when it is inserted in an optical loop. Using this scheme, the conversion between flying qubits and stationary qubits in memory is not necessary, as the memory and quantum logic gates are composed fo the same optical resources.

A New General Purpose Event Horizon Finder For 3d Numerical Spacetimes, Peter Diener Nov 2003

A New General Purpose Event Horizon Finder For 3d Numerical Spacetimes, Peter Diener

Faculty Publications

I present a new general purpose event horizon finder for full 3D numerical spacetimes. It works by evolving a complete null surface backwards in time. The null surface is described as the zero-level set of a scalar function, which in principle is defined everywhere. This description of the surface allows the surface, trivially, to change topology, making this event horizon finder able to handle numerical spacetimes where two (or more) black holes merge into a single final black hole.

This edition of the Wooster Voice was published on November 21 of 2003, it is sixteen pages long. Campus Council is planning to ask for $165,000 to allocate for the next year. On November 19 the Democrat and Republican clubs held a political debate. The tornado that touched down on last Wednesday cause about 15 million dollars in damage. Three flags and a clock have been stolen from Lowry. The College of Wooster hosted and participated in a Moot Court tournament.
