Spintessence! New Models For Dark Matter And Dark Energy, Latham A. Boyle, Robert R. Caldwell, Marc Kamionkowski

We investigate a class of models for dark matter and/or negative-pressure, dynamical dark energy consisting of “spintessence”, a complex scalar field φ spinning in a U(1)-symmetric potential V(φ)=V(|φ|). As the Universe expands, the field spirals slowly toward the origin. The internal angular momentum plays an important role in the cosmic evolution and fluctuation dynamics. We outline the constraints on a cosmic spintessence field, describing the properties of the potential necessary to sustain a viable dark energy model, making connections with quintessence and self-interacting and fuzzy cold dark matter. The Anchor: 2002

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.
