Declared Plant Control Handbook Recommendations For The Control Of Declared Plants In Western Australia, John R. Peirce, Rachael A. Pratt

Biosecurity published reports

Sixth Edition.

Reviewed October 2005.

Plants may be "declared" by the Agriculture Protection Board under the Agriculture and Related Resources Protection Act 1976.If a plant is declared, all landholders are obliged to control that plant on their properties. Declarations specifies a category, or categories, for each plant according to the control strategies or objectives which the Agriculture Protection Board believes are appropriate in a particular place.

Among the factors considered in categorising declared plants are:

* the impact of the plant on individuals, agricultural production and the community in general,

* whether it is already established in the area, and …

Ultra-Strong Internalism And The Reliabilist Insight, Dan D. Crawford Jan 2002

Ultra-Strong Internalism And The Reliabilist Insight, Dan D. Crawford

Department of Philosophy: Faculty Publications

When someone believes something that is justified for her, what part does the subject play in her state of being justified? I will answer this question by developing a strong internalist account of justification according to which the justification of a believing for a subject consists in her having grounds for her belief, and holding the belief in recognition of those grounds. But the internalist theory I defend incorporates key elements of reliabilism into its account. Using perception as a model for justification, I show how ordinary perceivers would appeal to external factors to support their perceptual beliefs, and normally …

Markwell, Lenis Alton Nelson, James E. Specht, Daniel T. Walters, Haishun Yang, Brigid Amos, Darren L. Binder, C. Murphy, Gregory J. Teichmeier

Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Faculty Publications

In 1999, an interdisciplinary research team at the University of Nebraska established a field experiment to (1) quantify and understand the yield potential of corn and soybean under irrigated conditions, (2) identify efficient crop management practices to achieve yields that approach potential levels, and (3) determine the energy use efficiency, global warming and soil C-sequestration potential of intensively managed corn systems. The experiment compares systems that represent different levels of management intensity expressed as combinations of crop rotation (continuous corn, corn-soybean), plant density (low, medium, high) and nutrient management (recommended best management vs. intensive management). Detailed measurements include soil nutrient …

Crop Sequence And Nitrogen Fertilization Effects On Soil Properties In The Western Corn Belt, M. A. Liebig, Gary E. Varvel, John W. Doran, Brian J. Wienhold

Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Faculty Publications

Understanding long-term management effects on soil properties is necessary to determine the relative sustainability of cropping systems. Soil physical, chemical, and biological properties were measured in a long-term cropping system study in the Western Corn Belt. Properties were evaluated after 16 yr in four crop sequences [continuous corn (Zea mays L.) (CC), corn–soybean [Glycine max. (L.)] (C–SB), corn–oat (Avena sativa L.) + clover (80% sweet clover [Melilotus officinalis L.] and 20% red clover [Trifolium pratense L.])–grain sorghum [(Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench)–soybean (C–OCL–SG– SB), and corn–soybean-grain sorghum–oat + clover (C–SB–SG– OCL)] each at three …

A Case Study On The Design Process For Mobilizing A Web Application, Lynn Bajowski Jan 2002

A Case Study On The Design Process For Mobilizing A Web Application, Lynn Bajowski

Theses

Mobilizing web applications is a current design problem facing software development teams. The majority of projects aimed at developing solutions for mobile devices have been focused on extending the functionality of existing Web applications. The solutions, being developed for personal digital assistants are scaled down versions of the existing Web application. This design solution has proved to be unusable. The usability failures are tied to not having a clear understanding of the user and task requirements. The Web interface seems to be getting in the way of designing an appropriate solution for personal digital assistants. Requirements analysis involves a wide …

Theses

This thesis examines the impact information technologies have had on the age-old phenomenon of terrorism. It looks at how terrorism has evolved into what has come to be known as information terrorism over this Information Era. Information revolution has introduced a new paradigm called Information Warfare for conflict among nations based upon attacking information infrastructures. The political attractions and deterrents to using these new information warfare methods are discussed at great length. The information age is affecting not only the types of targets and weapons terrorist choose, but also the ways in which such groups operate and structure their organizations. …

Simultaneous Multithreading: Operating System Perspective, Vyacheslav Rubinfine Jan 2002

Simultaneous Multithreading: Operating System Perspective, Vyacheslav Rubinfine

Theses

Developing CPU architecture is a very complicated, iterative process that requires significant time and money investments. The motivation for this work is to find ways to decreases the amount of time and money needed for the development of hardware architectures. The main problem is that it is very difficult to determine the performance of the architecture, since it is impossible to take any performance measurements untill upon completion of the development process. Consecutively, it is impossible to improve the performance of the product or to predict the influence of different parts of the architecture on the architecture's overall performance. Another …

Logic Functions From Three-Terminal Quantum Resistor Networks For Electron Wave Computing, Cheng-Hsiao Wu, Diwakar Ramamurthy Jan 2002

Logic Functions From Three-Terminal Quantum Resistor Networks For Electron Wave Computing, Cheng-Hsiao Wu, Diwakar Ramamurthy

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Electron transmission characteristics through a generalized three-terminal clean Aharonov-Bohm ring is investigated with an arbitrary terminal configuration. This three-terminal ring is shown to be the most basic quantum resistor network that is suitable for electron wave computing, as we demonstrate in this work. There are four basic classes of three-terminal rings. The scaling relation in each class is deduced. Thus the transmission characteristics in each class are valid from an atomic-scale-sized ring to a mesoscopic-scale-sized one, limited only by the electron phase-breaking length. The Buttiker symmetry rule is essential when searching for basic logic functions. Logic functions such as IF-THEN, …

Experimental Implementation Of Adaptive-Critic Based Infinite Time Optimal Neurocontrol For A Heat Diffusion System, Prashant Prabhat, S. N. Balakrishnan, Dwight C. Look

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Recently the synthesis methodology for the infinite time optimal neuro-controllers for PDE systems in the framework of adaptive-critic design has been developed. In this paper, first we model an experimental setup representing one dimensional heat diffusion problems. Then we synthesize and implement an adaptive-critic based neuro-controller for online temperature profile control of the experimental setup.

The Future Of Data Communications System Design, Kenneth Kellow Jan 2002

The Future Of Data Communications System Design, Kenneth Kellow

Theses

The Information Technology universe and its data communications subset was created largely due to advances in integrated circuit technology. Primarily focused on layer 2 of the OSI model, silicon integration is a technology upon which much of data communications is constructed. Over the past forty years advances in integrated circuit technology have manifested themselves through shrinking structural dimensions and increases in performance. This combination of shrinking structural dimensions also known as circuit density, and performance increases, also known as circuit speed, have led to long term compound productivity increases and a seemingly never ending menu of data communications applications. Recent …

A Comparative Study Between Ireland's Economic Model And Jordan's Current Reforms: What Are The Characteristics Jordan Can Emulate?, Yanal Jallad

Theses

Jordan is a beautiful country with a rich assortment of historical, religious and geographical tourist attractions. It is both a modern and moderate nation with a hospitable people. Sandwiched in a turbulent region, Jordan must overcome these challenges while moving its economic transformation forward. Some commentators point out that Jordan can learn a great deal from countries like Ireland, who have successfully transformed their economies into globally competitive ones. By identifying and understanding the fundamental characteristics of the Irish model, Jordan would be in a better position to emulate the Irish model while maintaining its uniqueness and character. This body …

Development Of A Travel Web Site On A Corporate Internet, Deborah Prosinski Jan 2002

Development Of A Travel Web Site On A Corporate Internet, Deborah Prosinski

Theses

In early 1999, the Travel Department of Global Crossing (formerly Frontier Communications) was searching for a better way to transfer information between travel planners and travel counselors. At the same time, the corporation mandated that all departments within the corporation have a presence on the corporate intranet. Both of these goals would be accomplished by designing and developing a travel site on the corporate intranet. The next question was how to accomplish this task. Benchmarking, as well as research, was conducted to determine the best way to develop a travel web site. Courses in web design were taken, and information …

Eight lines of grain sorghum and their F1 hybrids were evaluated for contents of crude protein (CP), fat (FAT), and starch (STA); protein digestibility (PD); and in vitro dry matter disappearance (IVDMD). The effect of seed weight (SW) on these traits and the potential use of near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) to predict them also were investigated. The male lines included three normal-seeded lines (TX2737, TX435, and P954063) and two largeseeded lines (PL-1 and Eastin1). The female lines included commonU.S. seed parent lines (Wheatland, Redlan, and SA3042). The lines and their hybrids were grown under dryland conditions at Kansas State …

You Are Likely To Be Eaten By A Grue: How Computer Games Are Consuming Modern Culture, Douglas Alexander Jan 2002

You Are Likely To Be Eaten By A Grue: How Computer Games Are Consuming Modern Culture, Douglas Alexander

Theses

Computer games represent an area of untapped, unappreciated potential in the human-computer relationship. Having long been considered "low culture" and unworthy of scholarly attention, the focus on games is intensifying as the field of ludology emerges. The first game was created forty years ago, and since then games have branched out from their traditionally young male user base and gained popularity with both adults and females. Violence in and addiction to games remain controversial topics, but the threat posed by games fades a bit in comparison to the fascinating insights they give us into literature, art, and cinema. Their cultural …

Exotic Integral Witt Equivalence Of Algebraic Number Fields, Changheon Kang

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Two algebraic number fields K and L are said to be exotically integrally Witt equivalent if there is a ring isomorphism W(OK) ~ W(OL) between the Witt rings of the number rings OK and OL of K and L, respectively. This dissertation studies exotic integral Witt equivalence for totally complex number fields and gives necessary and sufficient conditions for exotic integral equivalence in two special classes of totally complex number fields.
