Deliquescence Behavior Of Organic/Ammonium Sulfate Aerosol, Sarah D. Brooks, Matthew E. Wise, Melinda Cushing, Margaret A. Tolbert

Recent studies have shown that tropospheric aerosols composed of internal mixtures of organics with sulfates are quite common with the organic composing up to 50% of the particle mass. The influences of the organics on the chemical and physical properties of the aerosol are not known. In this paper, we report the solubility of a series of dicarboxylic acids in saturated ammonium sulfate solution as a function of temperature. We also report the deliquescence relative humidity (DRH) of the pure dicarboxylic acids and of mixtures of dicarboxylic acids with ammonium sulfate. Methods and compositions for treatment of, or protection from, neuropathy resulting from reperfusion injury upon reversal of an ischemic condition, comprising treatment or prophylactic treatment of the patient with an antagonist of the type 3 ryanodine receptor, such that a rise in cytosolic Ca²⁺ concentration is prevented. Therapeutic compositions containing dantrolene or aminodantrolene are administered to the patient to prevent a rise in cytosolic Ca²⁺ that would otherwise result in Ca²⁺ -mediated neuronal damage. Treatment of ischemic optic neuropathy by this method is shown, and the methods and compositions presented are also applicable to other ischemic reperfusion …

This conference is built on two very interesting premises; first, that university outreach can change society and second, that outreach can also change the university. What is the mechanism by which this mutual influence can occur? What does the university offer the community, and what does the community offer the university? The short answer is--the opportunity to learn in the company of others in a situation where learning has consequences.

Complex Systems Faculty Publications and Presentations

What follows are thoughts about several of the Shabbat and daily prayers which are collected together, with translations, in Shiru Ladonai, a Siddur prepared by Rabbi Aryeh Hirschfield. These thoughts reflect how I understand the prayers, what they mean to me when I am able to make a personal connection with them. Most of the ideas expressed below are not original, but draw from a variety of sources. The format is the following: the Hebrew prayer, or a fragment of it, is followed by an English translation, usually R. Aryeh's but occasionally my own, and then by an interpretation or …
