Adaptation Of The Team Problem Solving Assessment Tool For Teambuilding Applications, Timothy R. Borton, David L. Groves Jan 2002

Adaptation Of The Team Problem Solving Assessment Tool For Teambuilding Applications, Timothy R. Borton, David L. Groves

Visions in Leisure and Business

Team building is popular with business, organizations and universities because of its ability to improve performance through group's processes. Even though teambuilding is commonly used by businesses, there are few tools that measure the effectiveness of teambuilding quantity. One author suggests that there is a large amount of anecdotal evidence that teambuilding is effective, but quantity measures of teambuilding related to the outcomes it produces exists. The purpose of this project was to adapt the Team Problem Solving Assessment Tool (TPSAT) by Armando J. Rotondi for teambuilding events. A Delphi approach was used with content experts to modify the instrument.

Secondary Student Perceptions Of Vocational Education, Randall Mcgarey Haney Jan 2002

Secondary Student Perceptions Of Vocational Education, Randall Mcgarey Haney

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The central focus of the present study was to examine the relationship between student personal factors (i.e., gender, race, academic performance, career awareness, and socio-economic factors) and the perceptions of secondary school students regarding vocational education. In recent years, traditional vocational programs have not done well throughout the nation. Enrollment within vocational education has dropped to approximately 10%, while enrollment in college preparation courses has increased to over 50%.

The subjects of this study were secondary school students enrolled in the Duval County Public School system. The research was conducted using a two-part survey instrument containing 24 demographic questions and …

It's All Relative: A Study On The Acceptance Of Family Employment In College Athletics, Jennifer E. Cirillo Jan 2002

It's All Relative: A Study On The Acceptance Of Family Employment In College Athletics, Jennifer E. Cirillo

Graduate Student Dissertations, Theses, Capstones, and Portfolios

Nepotism is a dirty little word: Related individuals work together in entertainment, medicine, education and yes, even sports administration. This study proposes to identify the acceptance of relatives, by blood or by marriage, working together in NCAA Division II colleges in the southeastern United States. "Nepotism" is an arguably accurate descriptor of arrangements of relatives working together. However, the potential for real as well as asserted preferential treatment is shown to exist. Further, as the trend of couples working in the same discipline grows, whether or not a candidate accepts a position may be determined by the potential manager's acceptance …

Barriers To Sustainability Among Tourism-Related Businesses : Identification And Reduction, Jonathan Andrew Vernon Jan 2002

Barriers To Sustainability Among Tourism-Related Businesses : Identification And Reduction, Jonathan Andrew Vernon

School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences Theses

The attainment of sustainable development has emerged as one of the main challenges facing society and the economy in the twenty-first century. In tourism, the English Tourism Council (2001 a, p. 11) recognise that sustainable tourism can no longer be regarded as an optional extra, but is fundamental to safeguarding the long-term competitiveness of the industry. To establish sustainable development as a primary strategic objective within the tourism industry represents a substantial challenge. Such a goal is problematic not least because the sector is so diverse and is based around a large number of small businesses which are not always …

The Effects Of An Aggression -Management Training Intervention Program On Controlling Ice Hockey Player Penalty Minutes., Mark Anthony Mattesi Jan 2002

The Effects Of An Aggression -Management Training Intervention Program On Controlling Ice Hockey Player Penalty Minutes., Mark Anthony Mattesi

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Aggression in sport, either hostile or instrumental, is defined within the literature as purposeful and having the capacity to be rule-violating, leading to penalties or potentially causing psychological or physical injury to another. To date, few studies have looked at controlling and reducing levels of aggression and penalty minutes with ice hockey players. No research has developed a program specifically for controlling ice hockey players' aggression. Sport psychology literature does include research done by Silva (1982), which only looked at one variable in terms of stress reduction in teaching stress management skills to overly aggressive ice hockey players. The general …
