Adsorption Of Organic Pollutants Onto Natural Adsorbents, Arun Subramani
Adsorption Of Organic Pollutants Onto Natural Adsorbents, Arun Subramani
Theses and Dissertations
In this research, the adsorptive capacities of kenaf, peat moss, hay, and peanut hulls were evaluated for the removal of TNT and 2,4-DCP from aqueous solutions. Adsorbent loading capacities determined by batch studies were verified by continuous column experiments. It was found that the adsorption capacity of the candidate adsorbents were significantly lower than granular activated carbon (GAC). The impact of surface modification techniques, such as surface oxidation, were evaluated to study the effect on adsorption capacity. At lower equilibrium concentrations of the adsorbate (less than 10 ppb), surface oxidation by ozone showed an increase in the adsorption capacity. The …
Integration Of Zero-Valent Metals And Chemical Oxidation For The Destruction Of 2,4,6-Trinitrotoluene Within Aqueous Matrices, Rafael Hernandez
Integration Of Zero-Valent Metals And Chemical Oxidation For The Destruction Of 2,4,6-Trinitrotoluene Within Aqueous Matrices, Rafael Hernandez
Theses and Dissertations
The Department of Defense (DoD) has numerous sites that contain groundwater contaminated with 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT). The currently applied technologies for treating TNT contaminated waters are carbon adsorption and chemical oxidation. Carbon adsorption is a non-destructive technology, which could create future liability issues and is inefficient at relatively low TNT concentrations. On the other hand, application of chemical oxidation for the treatment of TNT contaminated water generates trinitrobenzene (TNB), a by-product of the incomplete oxidation of TNT. TNB is regulated as strictly as TNT. Additionally, over 70% of the reactor required treatment time for meeting target levels is due solely for …

The Case That Won't Go Away: Beseiged Institutions And The Massachusetts Teacher Tests, Larry H. Ludlow, Dennis Shirley, Camelia Rosca
Education Policy Analysis Archives (EPAA)
Teacher testing was inaugurated in Massachusetts in 1998 and a 59% failure rate among test-takers led to public shaming of the teacher candidates and their colleges and universities in the media. Within a two-year time period, low-performing teacher education programs in Massachusetts initiated a wide range of test preparatory activities which led to a dramatic increase in their students' pass rates. The authors separate colleges and universities into three categories and examine their differentiated responses to teacher testing. Their finding that institutions of higher education have responded effectively to teacher testing does not preclude critique of teacher testing as currently …

Keeping Faith: A Religious Profile of Holy Cross Students
In recent years, a debate has raged about the spiritual health of Catholic colleges. While many have observed a heightened focus on religious mission during the 1990s, others are much more pessimistic.

Reconfiguration In An Optical Multiring Interconnection Network - Masters Thesis, December 2002, Praveen Krishnamurthy
All Computer Science and Engineering Research
The advent of optical technology that can feasibly support extremely high bandwidth chip-to-chip communication raises a host of architectural questions in the design of digital systems. Terabit per second (and higher) bandwidths have not been previously available at the chip level. In this thesis, we examine the use of this technology in two different scenarios, viz., as the interconnection network in a multiprocessor system and as a switch fabric in network routers. Specifically, we examine the performance gains associated with utilizing the bandwidth reconfiguration capabilities of a system based on this technology.

A Multi-User Network Game For Learning English, Moon Jung Kim
A Multi-User Network Game For Learning English, Moon Jung Kim
Theses
As the era changed, education programs have developed tremendously and there are more people who seek for a new way to study easier. A game is one way to learn new skills; Network games especially can be used most effectively to support the goal of education. I believe that people can gain more knowledge through competitive games than memorizing by them selves. Some might think network games are not needed because there is no need for other people when you can compete with a computer, but There are limitations using just a computer and people feel more competitive when they …
