Effect Of Non-Nicotinic Moist Snuff Replacement And Lobeline On Withdrawal Symptoms During 48-H Smokeless Tobacco Deprivation, Dennis E. Mcchargue, Frank L. Collins Jr., Lee M. Cohen

Department of Psychology: Faculty Publications

The present study investigated the effects of two herbal components (BACCOFFTM and DIPSTOP ™) of a commercially available smokeless tobacco treatment program for reducing subjective withdrawal symptoms during deprivation. One component, BACCOFF™, is a non-nicotinic chew. The second component, DIPSTOP™, is a liquid containing the alkaloid lobeline, which to some extent mimics peripheral nicotinic effects. All participants (N = 22 males) were placed in four conditions: BACCOFF™ + DIPSTOP™, BACCOFF™ + placebo control, DIPSTOP™ only, and placebo control only. The conditions involved 48 h of deprivation, and subjects were exposed to one condition per week for 4 weeks. …

Leading The Sales Team: Using Greenleaf's Servant Leadership Paradigm To Facilitate Team Building, Patricia A. Campanaro

Theses and Graduate Projects

According to Peter Drucker, Robert K. Greenleaf is known as the grandfather of the modern empowerment movement in business leadership. Greenleaf fervently believed that true leaders are those who lead by serving others. He was also a strong proponent of ethics and integrity in the ranks of managers/leaders.

A research study in the Journal of Marketing Management, Spring/Summer 1997, reported that the personal factor found to have the greatest influence in the performance of sales managers was training. This paper applies the Servant Leader Model to the demands of the sales leadership role. Traditional sales training concentrates on the mechanics …

Using Photographic Storytelling To Cultivate Intercultural Awareness And Understanding With Immigrant And Refugee-Background Students, Sarah Lizdas May 2002

Using Photographic Storytelling To Cultivate Intercultural Awareness And Understanding With Immigrant And Refugee-Background Students, Sarah Lizdas

MA TESOL Collection

Photographs are an important visual aid to share our stories and expressions of culture. The need is great for the voices and stories of immigrant and refugee-background students to be heard, if they choose to share their stories. As English teachers, we can invite our students to participate in the contribution of an asset-based discourse rather than a deficit one regarding immigrants and refugee-background people in the US. How can we do this through ethnographic inquiry using photographs and storytelling? This paper includes a literature review to explore how photography and storytelling have been used to facilitate inter-cultural awareness and …

Anthropogenic Land-Use Change In The North American Tall Grass-Short Grass Transition And Modification Of Near-Surface Hydrologic Cycle, Rezaul Mamood, Kenneth Hubbard May 2002

Anthropogenic Land-Use Change In The North American Tall Grass-Short Grass Transition And Modification Of Near-Surface Hydrologic Cycle, Rezaul Mamood, Kenneth Hubbard

School of Natural Resources: Faculty Publications

During the 19th and 20th centuries, the landscape of the North American Great Plains was rapidly modified from natural grasslands to agricultural farmlands. These changes affected much of the continent with potential impacts in grasslands equal to deforestation elsewhere. Therefore, the resulting impacts on weather and climate should be studied. In this study, a soil water balance model is applied for 3 land uses at 3 locations. These locations are representative of the east to west declining precipitation gradient of the Great Plains. It was found, in McCook, Nebraska, for example, that annual total evapotranspiration for irrigated maize is 36% …

Creating Community-Centered Health Information Systems Architectures: Parterning With Regional Health Planning Groups, Patricia Brennan May 2002

Creating Community-Centered Health Information Systems Architectures: Parterning With Regional Health Planning Groups, Patricia Brennan

Historical and Administrative Collection

Creating and sustaining consumer and public health informatics innovations requires architectures that are community-wide and that capitalize on emerging technology developments. At the University of Wisconsin, the IAIMS planning group envisioned a state-wide Health IT architecture to support teaching, research and service initiatives throughout the entire state. This IAIMS planning group established a link with a regional health planning group, the Dodge Jefferson Healthier Communities Partnership. This talk will address the inception, mutual goal setting, and post-IAIMS Planning Project activities undertaken to create the technical infrastructure and community level decision making to bring a regional health information architecture into reality.

Empowering, Embracing, Energizing Customers: A Mandate For Change, Patricia Brennan

Historical and Administrative Collection

Health informatics innovations are acceptable to lay persons and their family caregivers, and their use helps community-dwelling people recover faster, and with fewer complications. Full value of consumer health informatics tools, however, necessitates systematic changes in health care delivery wherein the patient emerges as a full partner in the co-creation of health care and health services.

Construction Worker Dies After Being Struck By A Falling Excavator Bucket, Kentucky Injury Prevention And Research Center

Fatality Case Reports--Other

A 44-year-old construction worker (victim) was killed when a 36-inch-wide bucket weighing more than 1000 pounds, detached from its quick release coupler and fell from an excavator, landing on him as he was working in a trench. The victim and another worker had been in the trench preparing it for a pre-formed concrete manhole that they were about to install. Their supervisor (the excavator operator) sat and waited in the excavator, with the engine running, and the bucket raised a few feet above ground level so that it would be out of the way. The second man in the trench …
