Why Prefer Double Robust Estimates? Illustration With Causal Point Treatment Studies, Romain Neugebauer, Mark J. Van Der Laan
Why Prefer Double Robust Estimates? Illustration With Causal Point Treatment Studies, Romain Neugebauer, Mark J. Van Der Laan
U.C. Berkeley Division of Biostatistics Working Paper Series
In point treatment marginal structural models with treatment A, outcome Y and covariates W, causal parameters can be estimated under the assumption of no unobserved confounders. Three estimates can be used: the G-computation, Inverse Probability of Treatment Weighted (IPTW) or Double Robust (DR) estimates. The properties of the IPTW and DR estimates are known under an assumption on the treatment mechanism that we name "Experimental Treatment Assignment" (ETA) assumption. We show that the DR estimating function is unbiased when the ETA assumption is violated if the model used to regress Y on A and W is correctly specified. The practical …

Endocytic Intermediates Involved With The Intracellular Trafficking Of A Fluorescent Cellular Prion Protein, Ac Magalhaes, Ja Silva, Vr Martins, Vf Prado, Ssg Ferguson, Mv Gomez, Rr Brentani, Mam Prado
Anatomy and Cell Biology Publications
We have investigated the intracellular traffic of PrPc, a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored protein implicated in spongiform encephalopathies. A fluorescent functional green fluorescent protein (GFP)-tagged version of PrPc is found at the cell surface and in intracellular compartments in SN56 cells. Confocal microscopy and organelle-specific markers suggest that the protein is found in both the Golgi and the recycling endosomal compartment. Perturbation of endocytosis with a dynamin I-K44A dominant-negative mutant altered the steady-state distribution of the GFP-PrPc, leading to the accumulation of fluorescence in unfissioned endocytic intermediates. These pre-endocytic intermediates did not seem to accumulate GFP-GPI, a minimum GPI-anchored protein, suggesting that …

Expanded Horizons: Memory, Memorials And Manhattan's Living Skyline, Kenneth Anderson
Book Reviews
Book Review of James Sanders, Celluloid Skyline: New York and the Movies Some cities are characterized by their monuments. Paris is one, and Washington another. Unsurprisingly, these are also cities characterized by being the seat of government, cities of the State, urban spaces delineated by ministries, bureaucracies, courts of law, the architecture of administrative apparatus, devoted to governing in the present in part by mythologizing, monumentalizing, the past. The myth-making need not be dictatorial, let alone totalitarian or Stalinist, in its architectural effect. Nor is it necessary that in order for monuments to be enjoyed aesthetically, the politics and ideologies …
