Bibliography Of Hate Materials, Elizabeth Thweatt
Bibliography Of Hate Materials, Elizabeth Thweatt
Journal of Hate Studies
Interest in working on this bibliography stems from involvement with the Collection Development Committee of the Institute for Action Against Hate at Gonzaga University as we sought to create a collection of materials to support study and research. Not being able to find a bibliography in print suggested that an annotated one would be valuable. Defining hate is problematic. Its scope is so broad that it touches almost all aspects of life and it dwells within the hearts and minds of each one of us. Although many of us cling subconsciously to it, hate harms and sometimes kills its victims. …

Environmental Justice Through Pollution Prevention: Development Of A Quantitative Method To Assess Community Vulnerability And Air Emission Hazard For Optimal Impact., John Lewis Boettner Iii
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
This study develops a quantitative and objective method of analyzing community vulnerability combined with potential exposure to emission hazards. This extends earlier work concerning Environmental Justice Through Pollution Prevention (EJP2) initiatives for optimal selection of facilities for resource allocation for pollution prevention initiatives. A 1992 EPA report indicated that minority and low-income communities are exposed to higher levels of pollution in their neighborhoods than that of the general population. Environmental Justice is a grassroots derived term for addressing these disproportionate shares of negative environmental impacts, which are placed upon people of minority or low socio-economic status. The method developed identifies …

Pigs In Space: Ghosts, Gender And Sexuality In A Debate About Regulating Industrial Hog Farms In Kentucky, Mary E. Curran
Pigs In Space: Ghosts, Gender And Sexuality In A Debate About Regulating Industrial Hog Farms In Kentucky, Mary E. Curran
University of Kentucky Doctoral Dissertations
In 1997, Governor Paul Patton of Kentucky asked the state Cabinet of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection to develop administrative regulations for industrial hog farms in the state. The regulatory process has been contentious. From 1997 through 1998, the Cabinet held five public hearings to elicit comments on the proposed regulations. This study is designed to answer two questions. First, how, within parameters of participation established by the Kentucky Cabinet of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, have participants in the debate deployed notions of risk to privilege certain gendered and sexualized farming identities, farming practices, and notions of rurality? Second, …
