An Algorithm Applicable To Clearing Combinatorial Exchanges, Marius Silaghi Sep 2002

An Algorithm Applicable To Clearing Combinatorial Exchanges, Marius Silaghi

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Faculty Publications

It is important to approach negotiations in a way that ensures privacy. So far, research has focused on securely solving restricted classes of negotiation techniques, mainly the (M+1)-st-price auctions. Here we show how these results can be adapted to more general problems. This paper extends our previous results on how distributed finite discrete problems can be solved securely. Such problems can model larger classes of negotiation problems, .e.g. Combinatorial Exchanges [Sil02]. In Finite Discrete Maximization, each tuple in the problem space is associated with an integer value in a predefined interval and we search for a maximizing input. Values from …

A Qualitative Study Of The Effects Of Transition Services On The Quality Of Life For Post-High School (0 - 2 Years) Students With Down's Syndrome Who Are Educable Mentally Retarded, Joseph A. Finley Jr. Sep 2002

A Qualitative Study Of The Effects Of Transition Services On The Quality Of Life For Post-High School (0 - 2 Years) Students With Down's Syndrome Who Are Educable Mentally Retarded, Joseph A. Finley Jr.

Graduate Student Dissertations, Theses, Capstones, and Portfolios

This qualitative study examined the effects of Transition Services on the quality of life of special needs students. Selected parents, students, and district school employees were interviewed, observed, and presented with questionnaires in an investigation into the effects of Transition Services on the quality of life for post-high school special needs students. Data was transcribed, coded, triangulated, and analyzed to understand what effect Transition Services actually had on quality of life of these students. The study resulted in fifteen major findings: a) district personnel distill Transition Services down to positive adult outcomes for success, b) selection criteria for district level …

Valuing The Benefits Of Transportation Research: A Matrix Approach, Sisinnio Concas, Stephen L. Reich, Ashley T. Yelds

CUTR Research Reports

The purpose of this study was to research, develop, and test various methodologies, approaches, equations and guidelines that could be applied to proposed, existing and completed research projects to provide some measure of the benefit and return on research expenditures.

The approach to the study was to do the following:

  • Gain an understanding of the kinds of projects traditionally sponsored by the FOOT Research Center;
  • Investigate what work had already been accomplished in the field of quantification of research benefits;
  • Determine certain kinds of research best measured by different measurement approaches;
  • Gather data on completed projects to test various methods; …

Performance Evaluation Of Linear Hash Structure Model In A Nested Transaction Environment, Malik Ayed Tubaishat, Sanjay Kumar Madria, Bharat Bhargava Sep 2002

Performance Evaluation Of Linear Hash Structure Model In A Nested Transaction Environment, Malik Ayed Tubaishat, Sanjay Kumar Madria, Bharat Bhargava

Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works

We design and implement a linear hash algorithm in nested transaction environment to handle large amount of data with increased concurrency. Nested transactions allow parallel execution of transactions, and handle transaction aborts, thus provides more concurrency and efficient recovery. We use object-oriented methodology in the implementation which helped in designing the programming components independently. In our model, buckets are modeled as objects and linear hash operations are modeled as methods. The papers contribution is novel in the sense that the system, to our knowledge, is the first to implement linear hashing in a nested transactions environment. We have built a …
