I did a case study of my mother because she was the most creative person I had ever known. However as I began my doctoral studies in creativity, I felt a lack, a gap, a large deficiency in the theories about, and descriptions of creative people. Wallace and Gruber, Howard Gardner, Feldman and Csikszentmihalyi studied creative people. Even though some of these people were very famous, I still thought I was not seeing a match for my mother's type of creativity. The purpose of this study was to examine Taiwanese leadership styles and succession practices, by reviewing current theory and practice and by conducting interviews with ten leaders of Taiwanese enterprises. The discussion with these leaders focused on their personal characteristics and behaviors related to their leadership styles, their leadership approaches, their relationship with their subordinates, the effects of their leadership styles and their succession practices. The interview data were also analyzed within the context of the literature review’s discussion on the characteristics of Chinese leadership and the traditional Chinese family enterprise. The recent emphasis on interdisciplinary scholarship—manifest in the resurgence of institutional programs like American studies and publications in cultural studies—has relocated both the literary critic and the literary text to unfamiliar territory. Spiritual direction is a way of assisting people in their growth toward spiritual maturity. Yet, spiritual direction remains a relatively unknown and undervalued link to the life of the spirit despite people's need for guidance. Often, ministers who are normally expected to offer spiritual direction are reluctant to engage in it. This dissertation proposes to reassure clergy and encourage them to risk engagement in spiritual direction. The first section seeks to clarify spiritual direction by providing definitions and distinguishing it from similar disciplines. This paper reports on a longitudinal study being conducted by Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) and a team of Aboriginal consultants in thirteen schools across Australia, which is following the progress of a group of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in their early years of schooling. The data collected includes measures of early literacy and numeracy, complemented by qualitative data gathered through interviews, questionnaires and observation. "See Me, Touch Me, Feel Me": (Im) Proving The Bodily Sense Of Masculinity, Marc A. Ouellette

Ultimately, this paper stems from two cultural strands which intersect in one cultural form, self-improvement advertising aimed at men. The first of these is the figure of the "new man," which appeared in the mid-1980s. The novelty lies in the positioning of masculine bodies precisely for the purpose of being seen. The available criticism was not equipped to account for these positionings. The second cultural strand, the proliferation of technologies which alter the body itself, as opposed to its coverings, makes the gap in the criticism more apparent. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of direct light microscopy (x 40 objective) of unstained uncentrifuged blood-broth mixtures for rapid detection of microorganisms in blood cultures. METHODS: Two thousand two hundred and ninety-four blood cultures were investigated in this study. Blood cultures were processed in the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory, Queen Alia General Hospital, Amman, Jordan from January to December 2001. We compared the results of direct light microscopy and subcultures in 3 stages: macroscopically positive blood culture bottles, macroscopically negative blood culture bottles after 9-17 hours, and macroscopically negative blood culture bottles after 7 days …

Kornelia Slavova, in her paper "Reading Liksom's Short Story 'We Got Married' in Post-communist Bulgaria," discusses the intricate interrelations of texts and social practices in postcommunist Bulgaria by analysing Rosa Liksom's short story read by sixty readers. Further, Slavova proposes the study of the uses of stereotypes in fiction and their discursive hardening in extratextual practices at times of radical political and cultural change. In her paper, "Reading Liksom's Short Story 'We Got Married' in Post-communist Estonia," Malle Järve discusses the reception of Rosa Liksom's text in post-communist Estonia. After gaining independence, Estonians became exposed to varieties of literature including avant-garde texts which did not fit easily with the expectations and rules of interpretation developed during Soviet rule. In his paper, "Liksom's Short Stories and the Ironies of Contemporary Existence," Chris Pawling examines Rosa Liksom's short stories in her volume One Night Stands. Pawling proposes that Liksom's texts can be understood as postmodern pastiches (Jameson) of different literary voices which in turn are couched in an "affect-less" prose that attempt to inhabit the mental universe of the narrator/protagonist without necessarily endorsing any aesthetic or ethical point of view. Liksom's fictional universe is populated by individuals who are alienated from the life of predictable routines and are searching for "action" in scenes of low life in late-night city bars. …

Social work has forfeited its professional mandate and should be replaced by "human services." In three traditional areas of responsibility-child welfare, public welfare, and mental health-social work has failed to meet its societal obligation. Meanwhile the profession has used postmodern thought to justify a focus on internal constituency groups. A template for professional education in human services is proposed.
