A Review Of The Genus Hylamorpha Arrow (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Rutelinae: Anoplognathini: Brachysternina), Brett C. Ratcliffe, Federico Carlos Ocampo
University of Nebraska State Museum: Entomology Papers
The southern Neotropical genus Hylamorpha (Scarabaeidae: Rutelinae: Anoplognathini: Brachysternina) is comprehensively reviewed. Hylamorpha elegans (Burmeister) is now the only species in the genus with H. cylindrica Arrow entered into new synonymy. Hylamorpha elegans var. australis Philippi is recognized as an unavailable name. Hylamorpha elegans is established as the type species for the genus, and a neotype for H. elegans is designated. Nomenclatural history, descriptions, illustrations, and commentary are included.

Insertion Of Proteins Into The Inner Membrane Of Mitochondria: The Role Of The Oxa1 Complex, Rosemary A. Stuart
Insertion Of Proteins Into The Inner Membrane Of Mitochondria: The Role Of The Oxa1 Complex, Rosemary A. Stuart
Biological Sciences Faculty Research and Publications
The inner mitochondrial membrane harbors a large number of proteins that display a wide range of topological arrangements. The majority of these proteins are encoded in the cell's nucleus, but a few polytopic proteins, all subunits of respiratory chain complexes are encoded by the mitochondrial genome. A number of distinct sorting mechanisms exist to direct these proteins into the mitochondrial inner membrane. One of these pathways involves the export of proteins from the matrix into the inner membrane and is used by both proteins synthesized within the mitochondria, as well as by a subset of nuclear encoded proteins. Prior to …

Writing Mathematics-A Nut And A Bolt Of Style, Frank A. Farris
Writing Mathematics-A Nut And A Bolt Of Style, Frank A. Farris
Mathematics and Computer Science
As editor of Mathematics Magazine, I see a lot of manuscripts. Some of them are written with a charming sense of style, but many of them leave me thinking that the author's only concern was to set out the mathematics clearly. This is a fine place to start, but the tradition of the Magazine is to offer things that people will enjoy reading, and this requires more than clarity. Let me explain an important step authors can take in order to make their work more attractive.
Six New Γ Doradus Stars, Gregory W. Henry, Francis C. Fekel
Six New Γ Doradus Stars, Gregory W. Henry, Francis C. Fekel
Information Systems and Engineering Management Research Publications
We present high‐resolution spectroscopy and precision photometry of six new γ Doradus stars, one of which was independently discovered by another group. This brings the total number of confirmed γ Doradus variables to 30. All six of these variables fall in the spectral class range F0–F2; all but one are subgiants. The six stars have between one and five photometric periods in the range 0.3–1.2 days. We find no evidence for higher frequency δ Scuti pulsations in any of these six stars. Our spectroscopic observations reveal HD 108100 to be the first confirmed γ Doradus variable with composite broad and …

The Promethean, Volume 11, Number 01, Fall/Winter 2002, English Department, Concordia University-Portland
The Promethean
This issue of the Promethean marks several changes in the journal's look and mission. In keeping with the convention of many literary journals, we have moved to a half-page format and standardized our layout so that the focus is on the written words our contributors have shared. The decision to feature artwork only on the cover was difficult, and we hope that our planned website will provide students with an opportunity to share their talents on-line. We are also featuring, in this issue and in forthcoming fall/winter issues, the winners of our themed essay contest. This fall the contest asked …
