The increasing ubiquity of mobile devices has led to an explosion in the development of applications tailored to the particular needs of individual users. As the research community gains experience in the development of these applications, the need for middleware to simplify such software development is rapidly expanding. Vastly different needs of these various applications, however, have led to the emergence of many different middleware models, each of which approaches the dissemination of contextual information in a distinct way. The EgoSpaces model consists of logically mobile agents that operate over physically mobile hosts. EgoSpaces addresses the specific needs of individual …

Data, Information, And Knowledge In The Context Of Sils, Michael A. Zang, Jens G. Pohl
Collaborative Agent Design (CAD) Research Center
Data, information, and knowledge are becoming increasingly common terms in the literature of the software industry. This terminology originated some time ago in the disciplines of cognitive science and artificial intelligence to reference three closely related but distinct concepts. Traditionally, mainstream software engineering has lumped all three concepts together as data and has only recently begun to distinguish between them. Unfortunately, the popular desire to distinguish between data, information, and knowledge within the mainstream has blurred the individual meanings of the words to the point where there is no longer a clear-cut distinction between them for most people. Robert E. “Bob” Hirshon was born April 2, 1948 in Portland, Maine and raised there. His parents were Severin and Gladys (Wein) Hirshon. His father was a dentist. His mother worked in the home and was from the Waterville area. Bob was involved with the evaluation system for the Model Cities program in Portland during his high school years. He received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Michigan. He joined the law firm of Drummond, Woodsum and MacMahon in 1973. Hirshon was President of the ABA (American Bar Association) in 2001 and 2002. In 2003 he was …
