Deliquescence Behavior Of Organic/Ammonium Sulfate Aerosol, Sarah D. Brooks, Matthew E. Wise, Melinda Cushing, Margaret A. Tolbert Oct 2002

Deliquescence Behavior Of Organic/Ammonium Sulfate Aerosol, Sarah D. Brooks, Matthew E. Wise, Melinda Cushing, Margaret A. Tolbert

CUP Faculty Research

Recent studies have shown that tropospheric aerosols composed of internal mixtures of organics with sulfates are quite common with the organic composing up to 50% of the particle mass. The influences of the organics on the chemical and physical properties of the aerosol are not known. In this paper, we report the solubility of a series of dicarboxylic acids in saturated ammonium sulfate solution as a function of temperature. We also report the deliquescence relative humidity (DRH) of the pure dicarboxylic acids and of mixtures of dicarboxylic acids with ammonium sulfate. For the systems studied, we find that the presence …

Method And Composition For Treatment Of Ischemic Neuronal Reperfusion Injury, Harpal S. Mangat, Gerry Ballough, Gary Brown Oct 2002

Method And Composition For Treatment Of Ischemic Neuronal Reperfusion Injury, Harpal S. Mangat, Gerry Ballough, Gary Brown

USF Patents

Methods and compositions for treatment of, or protection from, neuropathy resulting from reperfusion injury upon reversal of an ischemic condition, comprising treatment or prophylactic treatment of the patient with an antagonist of the type 3 ryanodine receptor, such that a rise in cytosolic Ca2+ concentration is prevented. Therapeutic compositions containing dantrolene or aminodantrolene are administered to the patient to prevent a rise in cytosolic Ca2+ that would otherwise result in Ca2+ -mediated neuronal damage. Treatment of ischemic optic neuropathy by this method is shown, and the methods and compositions presented are also applicable to other ischemic reperfusion …

An Evaluation Of Factors Related To The Disproportionate Representation Of Children Of Color In Santa Clara County’S Child Welfare System: Child And Family Characteristics And Pathways Through The System Phase 2, Alice Hines, Peter Lee, Laurie Drabble, Lonnie Snowden, Kathy Lemon Osterling

Faculty Publications

While child abuse and neglect appears to affect children of all racial and ethnic origins (US Department of Health and Human Services, 1998; Sedlack & Broadhurst, 1996), an analysis of national, California and Santa Clara County data on the ethnicities of children in out of home placement reveals that, compared to their presence in the general population, there is a disproportionate involvement of children of color in the public child welfare system (CWS). In Santa Clara County, in particular, when compared to the general population, African American, Hispanic/Latino and Native American children are overrepresented in the CWS, while Asian American/Pacific …
