Assembly And Compositional Analysis Of Human Genomic Dna - Doctoral Dissertation, August 2002, Eric C. Rouchka Nov 2002

Assembly And Compositional Analysis Of Human Genomic Dna - Doctoral Dissertation, August 2002, Eric C. Rouchka

All Computer Science and Engineering Research

In 1990, the United States Human Genome Project was initiated as a fifteen-year endeavor to sequence the approximately three billion bases making up the human genome (Vaughan, 1996).As of December 31, 2001, the public sequencing efforts have sequenced a total of 2.01 billion finished bases representing 63.0% of the human genome (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genome/seq/page.cgi?F=HsProgress.shtml&&ORG=Hs) to a Bermuda quality error rate of 1/10000 (Smith and Carrano, 1996). In addition, 1.11 billion bases representing 34.8% of the human genome has been sequenced to a rough-draft level. Efforts such as UCSC's GoldenPath (Kent and Haussler, 2001) and NCBI's contig assembly (Jang et al., 1999) attempt …

An Investigation Of Trace Cache Organizations For Superscalar Processors, Edward Mulrane Jr Nov 2002

An Investigation Of Trace Cache Organizations For Superscalar Processors, Edward Mulrane Jr

Theses

Techniques such as out-of-order issue and speculative execution aggressively exploit instruction level parallelism in modem superscalar processor architectures. The front end of such pipelined machines is concerned with providing a stream of schedulable instructions at a bandwidth that meets or exceeds the rate of instructions being issued and executed. As superscalar machines become increasingly wide, it is inevitable that the large set of instructions to be fetched every cycle will span multiple noncontiguous basic blocks. The mechanism to fetch, align, and pass this set of instructions down the pipeline must do so as efficiendy as possible, occupying a minimal number …

A Comparison Of Job Stressors And Job Strains Among Employees Holding Comarable Jobs In Western And Eastern Societies, Cong Liu Nov 2002

A Comparison Of Job Stressors And Job Strains Among Employees Holding Comarable Jobs In Western And Eastern Societies, Cong Liu

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

In this study, comparisons on job stressors and job strains have been made between American and Chinese employees. Data were collected from two jobs differing in social status: university professors and university administrative and support staff. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were used. The quantitative part involved traditional Likert scales for measuring job stressors (e.g., lack of job autonomy, interpersonal conflict, and organizational constraints), and job strains (e.g., turnover intention, frustration, negative emotions, job dissatisfaction, depression, and physical symptoms). The qualitative part was an open-ended questionnaire asking about a stressful job incident. Independent t-tests were used to compare the United …

A 700-Year Record Of Atmospheric Circulation Developed From The Law Dome Ice Core, East Antarctica, Joseph M. Souney Jr, Paul A. Mayewski, Ian D. Goodwin, David Meeker, Vin Morgan, Mark Aj Curran, Tas D. Van Ommen, Anne S. Palmer Nov 2002

A 700-Year Record Of Atmospheric Circulation Developed From The Law Dome Ice Core, East Antarctica, Joseph M. Souney Jr, Paul A. Mayewski, Ian D. Goodwin, David Meeker, Vin Morgan, Mark Aj Curran, Tas D. Van Ommen, Anne S. Palmer

All Materials

A 700-year, high-resolution, multivariate ice core record from Dome Summit South (DSS) (66°46′S, 112°48′E; 1370 m), Law Dome, is used to investigate sea level pressure (SLP) variability in the region of East Antarctica. Empirical orthogonal function (EOF) analysis reveals that the first EOF (LDEOF1) of the combined glaciochemical, oxygen isotope ratio, and accumulation rate record from DSS represents most of the variability in sea salt seen in the record. LDEOF1 is positively correlated (at least 95% confidence level) to instrumental June mean SLP across most of East Antarctica. Over the last 700 years, LDEOF1 levels at Law Dome were the …
