New Voices In The Tradition: Medieval Hagiography Revisited, Marie Anne Mayeski
New Voices In The Tradition: Medieval Hagiography Revisited, Marie Anne Mayeski
Theological Studies Faculty Works
The author argues for the use of hagiographical texts to expand the evidence for the theological tradition, precisely during the early Middle Ages when more obvious sources are wanting. Her thesis is that there is sound basis for reading the lives of the saints through the lens of doctrinal theology. After giving this evidence, she then exemplifies the value of such a reading by an ecclesiological analysis of Rudolf of Saxony’s life of St. Leoba, a companion of St. Boniface.]

An Argument For Tax Reform Based On Judeo-Christian Ethics, Susan Pace Hamill
An Argument For Tax Reform Based On Judeo-Christian Ethics, Susan Pace Hamill
Articles
This article applies the moral principles of JudeoChristian ethics as a basis for urging the citzens of Alabama to insist that the state and local tax structure be reformed This article first empirically documents that Alabamas state and local tax structure harshly burdens the poorest Alabamians through regressive income and sales taxes This article then proves that Alabamas lowest property taxes per capita in the nation leaves the state and local governments unable to fund minimum needs such as education thereby denying the poorest Alabamians a minimum opportunity to improve their lives An original empirical study of the relative property …

Required Texts: 1. RSV, NRSV, NIV, or some other non-paraphrased version of the Bible. The best Bible for IBS is one that contains only the text without paragraph headings, study notes, etc. I found it profitable to buy a completely unmarked "pew" bible to use exclusively for IBS. 2. A study of Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, and Colossians which builds on the methodology of the first inductive Bible study course by further use of what has been previously learned and by emphasizing the study of books as wholes. Accordingly, there is a special focus on the initial survey of books as wholes, the interpretation of parts of books in the context of the book as a whole, and the synthesis of books. In addition, attention is given to thinking, valuing, and living biblically by learning how to apply Scripture to life and ministry. This course seeks intentionally to incorporate the …
Heracleon: Fragments Of Early Valentinian Exegesis. Text, Translation, And Commentary, Timothy James Pettipiece
Heracleon: Fragments Of Early Valentinian Exegesis. Text, Translation, And Commentary, Timothy James Pettipiece
Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)
This thesis offers an in-depth study of Heracleon, an early Christian writer from the second century CE, who wrote the earliest known commentary on the Gospel of John. The text of this ancient commentary, written in Greek from the perspective of Valentinian theology, is known only from fragmentary citations made from it by Origen in his own later commentary on the same gospel. Although long-known as a representative of the Valentinian schools, Heracleon has often been neglected due to scholarly preoccupations with his teacher, Valentinus, as well as an ever-increasing emphasis on the Valentinian writings found within the Nag Hammadi …
