Organic Beef A Production Guide, Steven Mccoy
Organic Beef A Production Guide, Steven Mccoy
Bulletins 4000 -
Premium markets are expanding worldwide for certified organic and biodynamic beef products – those grown in accordance with recognised organic production and processing standards.
Many agricultural areas in Australia have the potential to produce organic beef, and several Western Australian and Eastern States organic producers are already exporting to Japan. Supermarkets such as Coles and Woolworths have started to build the Australian domestic market.
Converting to an organic system can be easier - requiring fewer changes - in ‘low input’ rangeland cattle production than in more intensive pasture-based or feedlot production. But regardless of the type of enterprise, managing organic …

Live animal export statistics
The live export of sheep and cattle makes a significant contribution to the Australian economy, returning almost $1 billion in 2002 and providing employment in services that support this industry. The live export trade provides important support for the sheep and cattle industries of Australia and is the only market outlet for producers in some areas of the country
The Effects Of Singing On Blood Pressure In Classically Trained Singers, Kimberly Jaye Broadwater
The Effects Of Singing On Blood Pressure In Classically Trained Singers, Kimberly Jaye Broadwater
LSU Major Papers
Blood pressure readings were taken in four normotensive, classically trained singers of varying age and experience. The results show changes during the systolic and diastolic phases of blood pressure measurements while singing. While systolic blood pressure changes were individualized and random, diastolic blood pressure changes generally showed a direct correlation to changes in intrathoracic pressure. Additional research using a larger subject base involving normotensive, hypertensive, and hypotensive populations is warranted.
Cognitive And Somatic Item Response Pattern Of Orofacial Pain Patients Compared To Fibromyalgia Patients And A Non-Pain Control Group, Morten Hadsel
Cognitive And Somatic Item Response Pattern Of Orofacial Pain Patients Compared To Fibromyalgia Patients And A Non-Pain Control Group, Morten Hadsel
University of Kentucky Master's Theses
Previous work has suggested that chronic pain patients report psychological distress through higher endorsement of somatic rather than cognitive signs of anxiety and depression. The present study compared female Non-Pain (11=52), Orofacial Pain (n=3 17) and Fibromyalgia (n=50) groups. on SCL-90-R Somatization, Anxiety and Depression raw scores and cognitive-somatic symptom patterning of the Anxiety and Depression scales. Comparisons were also made amongst orofacial pain diagnostic subgroups and subgroups based on Multidimensional Pain Inventory (MPI) classification groups. The Somatization. Anxiety and Depression scores were higher in the OroFacial Pain and Fibromyalgia than Non-Pain group and higher in the Dysfunctional than Adaptive …
Simulation Study Of Multilane Selectivity Bank In Automotive Industry, Sachin G. Nagane
Simulation Study Of Multilane Selectivity Bank In Automotive Industry, Sachin G. Nagane
University of Kentucky Master's Theses
This study deals with a very common problem encountered in many automotive industries. Automotive companies try to level the production of different models over time based on the demands for these models in the market. In order to achieve this, they introduce a leveled stream of cars in the beginning of the production line. But because of many reasons this leveled stream gets disturbed in its course. In order to re-level the stream, buffers are used between the shops. One such buffer is called as selectivity bank and it sits between paint shop and assembly shop. This buffer receives a …
The Place Of Dietary Practices In The Lives Of Older Women, Lisa Marie Curch
The Place Of Dietary Practices In The Lives Of Older Women, Lisa Marie Curch
University of Kentucky Doctoral Dissertations
Studies have supported the benefits of positive dietary behaviors in preventing or reducing morbidity and extending longevity, as well as the psychosocial function of dietary practices for quality of life. Research is needed though on the dietary behaviors of elders in general and older women in particular, for whom gender affects lifelong dietary patterns. Health behavior theory has typically focused on psychological factors, to the neglect of sociocultural processes. This investigation utilized a life course perspective, enhanced by social interactionist elements, to address aspects of development and change in behavior neglected by health behavior theories, such as temporal dimensions and …
Spatio-Temporal Variation In Activation Intervals During Ventricular Fibrillation, Sachin Anil Moghe
Spatio-Temporal Variation In Activation Intervals During Ventricular Fibrillation, Sachin Anil Moghe
University of Kentucky Doctoral Dissertations
Spatio-temporal variation in activation rates during ventricular fibrillation (VF)provides insight into mechanisms of sustained re-entry during VF. This study had three objectives related to spatio-temporal dynamics in activation rates during VF.
The first objective was to quantify spatio-temporal variability in activation rates, that is, in dominant frequencies, computed from epicardial electrograms recorded during VF in swine. Results showed that temporally and spatially, dominant frequencies variedas much as 20% of the mean dominant frequency, and the mean dominant frequencies increased during first 30 sec of VF. These results suggest that activation rates are nonstationary during VF.
The second objective of the study …

Persuasion And Resistance: The Use Of Psychology By Anglo-American Corporate Governance Advocates In France, James A. Fanto
Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law
The Author argues that in the 1990s Anglo-American corporate governance became the dominant model for large, public firms in the international business world, and that corporate governance professionals relentlessly promoted and exported Anglo-American corporate governance throughout the developed and developing world. Contending that it is an appropriate time--if only because the U.S. recession and international hostilities have tempered the "irrational exuberance" of capital market proponents--to examine critically the advocacy of Anglo-American corporate governance, the Author proposes that an important part of the critical assessment is to explain the momentum of the dominant model: to understand why Anglo-American corporate governance appeared …

Avoiding A Nuclear Trade War: Strategies For Retaining Tax Incentives For U.S. Corporations In A Post-Fsc World, Carrie A. Von Hoff
Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law
On January 14, 2002, the World Trade Organization (WTO) Appellate Body affirmed that the FSC Repeal and Extraterritorial Income (ETI) Exclusion Act, a replacement for the Foreign Sales Corporation (FSC) Act, was an unlawful export subsidy under WTO agreements. Though the European Union has indicated a willingness to wait before imposing the largest trade sanctions in the history of the WTO, it insists that the United States comply with the ruling. This Note explores the history of the conflict and considers possibilities for the future of international trade taxation.
This Note first examines the background to the conflict, beginning with …

Random Amplified Polymorphic Dna Markers For Discriminating Cochliomyia Hominivorax From C. Macellaria (Diptera: Calliphoridae), S. R. Skoda, Saowaluck Pornkulwat, John E. Foster
Department of Entomology: Faculty Publications
The screwworm, Cochliomyia hominivorax (Coquerel), is one of the most important pests of livestock in the Western Hemisphere. During early immature stages it is morphologically very similar (first instars are virtually indistinguishable) to the secondary screwworm, C. macellaria (Fabricius). Here, the utility of the random amplified polymorphic DNA–polymerase chain reaction (RAPD–PCR) was explored as a technique for developing molecular genetic markers for these two species. Of the 120 arbitrary primers screened, 21 primers produced markers that were further investigated. Seven of the 21 primers produced clear and reproducible markers that were tested with DNA of five individuals from four populations …

New Amphicyonid Carnivorans (Mammalia, Daphoeninae) From The Early Miocene Of Southeastern Wyoming, Robert M. Hunt Jr.
Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences: Faculty Publications
Latest Arikareean sediments of the upper Arikaree Group in southeastern Wyoming produced rare fossils of large, early Miocene amphicyonid carnivorans for field parties of the Frick Laboratory, American Museum, from 1932 to 1940. Recent geologic field investigations, including mapping, have discovered additional remains of these carnivorans, clarifying their geographic and stratigraphic distribution, and permitting a more informed description of the earlier collections. These carnivorans come from tuffaceous sandstones of the Upper Harrison beds, the terminal formation-rank unit of the Arikaree Group in southeastern Wyoming. A large species of the amphicyonid Daphoenodon (D. falkenbachi, n. sp.) occurs in northern …

Reduction Of Moniliformin During Alkaline Cooking Of Corn, Graciela Pineda-Valdes, Dojin Ryu, David S. Jackson, Lloyd B. Bullerman
Department of Food Science and Technology: Faculty Publications
The incidence of moniliformin (MON) producing Fusarium spp. in selected corn (Zea mays L.) samples from Mexico and the United States and the effects of alkaline cooking and the tortilla manufacturing processes on the reduction of MON were determined. The percentage of infected kernels with Fusariumspp. ranged from 0 to 22% in eight food-grade corn samples, including six from Mexico and two from the United States. Complete (100%) reduction of MON was observed when a naturally contaminated com sample containing 1.4 µg of MON/g of corn was used in a pilot-scale alkaline cooking and tortilla manufacturing process. In …
Cultural Aspects Of Drinking Patterns And Alcohol Controls In China, Ian Newman
Cultural Aspects Of Drinking Patterns And Alcohol Controls In China, Ian Newman
Department of Educational Psychology: Faculty Publications
Alcohol, 'jiu' in Mandarin, is intimately intertwined in almost every aspect of Chinese culture and has been since earliest times. China's cultural traditions, which have until now minimized the risks associated with alcohol use, will be challenged as China opens to the West There will be a tendency for outsiders to encourage the adoption of Western-style policies to address problems from alcohol abuse. Doing so without careful consideration of the cultural role of alcohol could be counterproductive.
The Importance Of Replication In Wildlife Research, Douglas H. Johnson
The Importance Of Replication In Wildlife Research, Douglas H. Johnson
United States Geological Survey, Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center: Publications
Wildlife ecology and management studies have been widely criticized for deficiencies in design or analysis. Manipulative experiments-with controls, randomization, and replication in space and time-provide powerful ways of learning about natural systems and establishing causal relationships, but such studies are rare in our field. Observational studies and sample surveys are more common; they also require appropriate design and analysis. More important than the design and analysis of individual studies is metareplication: replication of entire studies. Similar conclusions obtained from studies of the same phenomenon conducted under widely differing conditions will give us greater confidence in the generality of those findings …
