The Importance Of The Leather And Leather Product Industries In Turkey's Economy, Gül Uysal
The Importance Of The Leather And Leather Product Industries In Turkey's Economy, Gül Uysal
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The leather sector in Turkey is important as it is a sector which exports final goods with high added value. The development of the leather sector and the continuation of its contribution to the economy are related to the development level of the country's livestock sector. For this reason, the leather and livestock sectors are examined together. In this research, 165 enterprises which deal with raw hide, leather tanning, leather goods and ready made clothes in Istanbul and which have an important place in the leather sector in Turkey were classified in term of their scale. An interview survey was …

The Relationship Between Ascorbic Acid, Oestradiol 17 \Beta And Progesterone In Plasma And Ovaries In Pregnant Holstein Cows, Seyfullah Hali̇loğlu, Behi̇ç Serpek, Nuri̇ Başpinar, Hüseyi̇n Erdem, Zafer Bulut
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
This study was performed to determine the relationship between the corpus luteum weight/diameter, follicular diameter and the levels of vitamin C, progesterone and oestradiol 17-\beta of the plasma, corpus luteum and follicular fluid of pregnant Holstein cows in a slaughterhouse. Progesterone and oestradiol 17-\beta concentrations were determined by the microtitration plate EIA method. Vitamin C levels were determined by spectrophotometer. Although there was a positive correlation between follicular fluid oestradiol 17-\beta levels and the follicle diameter in the follicular fluid, in contrast to oestradiol 17-\beta levels, small follicles have higher progesterone content than large follicles. This negative correlation was due …

Leishmania Infantum In A Dog: Case Report, Remzi̇ Gönül, Seçki̇n Serdar Arun, Tamer Dodurka, Erol Handemi̇r
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Leishmaniasis is a worldwide, parasitic disease found in the Mediteranean area, Africa, Asia and Central and South America that affects mainly dogs, humans, and rodents. Dogs are the domestic reservoirs of the visceral form so that early detection of canine infections including complex clinical features may be important in the control of lehismaniasis. In this article we compared the clinical and laboratory results of leishmaniasis, which was diagnosed immunologically and histologically in a dog.

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
This study was conducted in Seyhan River between May 1997 and May 1998. Basic haematological parameters and effects of seasonal differences on these parameters were determined in Roach (Rutilus rutilus, Linnaeus, 1758) and Spotted Barb (Capoeta barroisi, Lortet, 1894) species which had adapted to water polluted by agricultural, industrial and domestic wastes. The waste of slaughterhouses also flowed into the region. The results of the study showed that there were deviations from standard values for most of the haematological parameters for R. rutilus indicating that R. rutilus individuals were affected by environmental stress factors more than those of C. barroisi.

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
This study was carried out on isobrown chicks fed from one day old on a diet containing 1% hot red pepper. Lenfoid infiltration and hyperemic areas in the parenchym, and hypertrophy in most of the glomeruli were observed. Effects Of Source And Concentrations Of Nitrogen And Carbohydrate On Ruminal Microbial Protein Synthesis, M. Aki̇f Karsli, James R. Russell
Effects Of Source And Concentrations Of Nitrogen And Carbohydrate On Ruminal Microbial Protein Synthesis, M. Aki̇f Karsli, James R. Russell
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The objective of this review was to discuss microbial protein synthesis and the effects of sources and concentrations of nitrogen and carbohydrate on microbial protein synthesis. Even though ammonia-N is a satisfactory source of nitrogen for the growth of the majority of rumen microbes, substitution of intact protein for urea usually stimulates ruminal microbial protein synthesis. While protein sources high in degradable intake protein (DIP), such as soybean meal, appear to have properties that optimize microbial protein synthesis, protein sources low in DIP, such as fish meal, appear to limit microbial protein synthesis apparantly because of the low ruminal digestibility …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Infection with the parasite Diplostomum sp. can lead to severe ocular pathology and may result in host mortalities in commercial fish farming. Here we show that such infection is rife in a major lake used for fishing in Turkey. In a study of Acanthobrama marmid fish in Keban Dam Lake, Elazığ, Turkey, we found the infection period was normally between May and September each year, and that the prevalence and abundance of eye lens parasites reached a maximum in September. Typical results of metacercariae occurrence in the fish eye included exophthalmia, local haemorrhage and lens cataract. There was a significant …
