Expression Of Active Human Factor Ix In Mammary Tissue And Of Milk Non Human Transgenic Mammals, William H. Velander Feb 2002

Expression Of Active Human Factor Ix In Mammary Tissue And Of Milk Non Human Transgenic Mammals, William H. Velander

Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering: Patents

Recombinant Factor IX characterized by a high percentage of active protein can be obtained in the milk of transgenic animals that incorporate chimeric DNA molecules according to the present invention. Transgenic animals of the present invention are produced by introducing into developing embryos DNA that encodes Factor IX, such that the foreign DNA is stably incorporated in the DNA of germ line cells of the mature animal. Particularly efficient expression was accomplished using a chimeric construct comprising a mammary gland specific promoter, Factor IX cDNA that lacked the complete or any portion of the 5'-untranslated and 3'-untranslated region, which is …

Department of Animal Science: Faculty Publications

Effects of inbreeding of animal and dam on estimates of genetic parameters and predictions of breeding values for five productive and reproductive traits of Piedmontese cattle were studied. Traits were (a) age at first insemination, (b) age at first calving, (c) 120-day weight, (d) yearling weight of males, and (e) yearling weight of females. Data for animals born from 1970 to 1995 were used. Inbreeding coefficients were computed using pedigree records back to 1900. A sire model was used for estimating genetic parameters and predicting breeding values. Two models were used for each trait. Model 1 included fixed effects of …

Estimation Of Genetic Parameters For Milk, Fat, Protein And Mozzarella Cheese Production For The Italian River Buffalo Bubalus Bubalis Population, A. Rosati, L. Dale Van Vleck

Department of Animal Science: Faculty Publications

The objective of this work was to estimate genetic parameters for the Italian population of river buffaloes. Lactation records (10,663) for milk, fat, protein and mozzarella cheese production of river buffalo cows were analyzed by fitting a multiple trait animal model using restricted maximum likelihood. The number of cows with records was 3873 with 6842 animals in the relationship matrix. mozzarella cheese production per lactation was computed by considering milk yield, and fat and protein percentages. The average lactational yields of milk, fat, protein and calculated mozzarella (kg) and fat and protein percentages were 2286.8±492.1, 196.9±45.6, 104.7±21.7, 589.1±125.4, 8.59±0.85 and …

The Family Blood Pressure Program (FBPP) consists of 4 independently established multicenter networks of investigators who have complementary approaches to the genetics of blood pressure levels and hypertension. The program has recruited participants from the African American, Mexican American, Asian, and non-Hispanic white populations. Each network utilized study designs, laboratory measurements, and analytic methods that made efficient use of the unique characteristics of their populations and the investigators expertise. The individual networks subsequently unified core study components into a single cohesive program. The unified FBPP includes (1) standardized clinic and laboratory protocols for core variables to facilitate direct comparison of …

Trusted Paths For Browsers: An Open-Source Solution To Web Spoofing, Zishuang (Eileen) Ye, Sean Smith

Computer Science Technical Reports

The security of the vast majority of ``secure'' Web services rests on SSL server PKI. However, this PKI doesn't work if the the adversary can trick the browser into appearing to tell the user the wrong thing about the certificates and cryptography. The seminal web spoofing work of Felten et al demonstrated the potential, in 1996, for malicious servers to impersonate honest servers. Our recent follow-up work explicitly shows how malicious servers can still do this---and can also forge the existence of an SSL session and the contents of the alleged server certificate. This paper reports the results of our …

Informational Value Of Museum Web Sites, V Kravchyna, Samantha K. Hastings Feb 2002

Informational Value Of Museum Web Sites, V Kravchyna, Samantha K. Hastings

Faculty Publications

What information are virtual visitors looking for on museum Web sites? This paper is a first step in a larger investigation into the informational value of museum Web sites. Scholars, teachers, students, museums staff, and museum visitors are the main categories of visitors examined in this study. Questions were asked of these museum audiences about their use of museum Web sites, museum databases, and other aspects of virtual visits.
