Flow Through Well Screens As A Function Of Pump Intake Location, Kristjan F. Bekker

Greater well efficiency and lower production costs may result from a knowledge of water flow through well screens. Current practice generally locates the intake of a pump in the cased section of the well above the screen. This work shows that placing the pump within the screen will increase well efficiency and therefore lower energy cost. This work also shows a correlation of increased well efficiency with respect to larger sand size, larger screen slot size, and lower flow rates.

The western Cold Turkey Creek structural anomaly is a subsurface structure in Bowman County, North Dakota, near the southern margin of the Williston Basin. The stucture was identified by oil explorationists as a possible impact crater, but its origin remained uncertain. The purpose of this study is to attempt to ascertain if sufficient evidence exists to determine that the anomaly is of impact origin.

The study area was confined to a nine township area surrounding the anomalous stucture in Bowman County, North Dakota. One hundred six oil exploration wells were identified in the area, and well logs were examined and …

Closed loop systems are becoming the preferred method of operating coordinated traffic signal systems. Some of the benefits of a closed loop system include remote controller access, synchronization of controller time clocks, and orderly transition between coordination plans. With ensured time clock synchronization, the coordination of traffic signals becomes more reliable, which leads to optimal vehicle progression through the system. However, due to the complexity and relative infrequent implementation in more rural districts of closed loop systems, it is very difficult to obtain a successful deployment. Research testing the relationship between adolescent religiosity and delinquent behavior is inconclusive. Some studies show a significant negative relationship while others indicate no relationship. Stark (1996) asserts that the relationship between religiosity and delinquency is a function of community religiosity as opposed to personal religiosity. Thus, in areas of high religiosity, there will be a strong relationship, while areas of low religiosity will show no relationship. It is, by now, well known that McIntyre's localized carrier-multiplication theory cannot explain the suppression of excess noise factor observed in avalanche photodiodes (APDs) that make use of thin multiplication regions. We demonstrate that a carrier multiplication model that incorporates the effects of dead space, as developed earlier by Hayat et al. provides excellent agreement with the impact-ionization and noise characteristics of thin InP, In/sub 0.52/Al/sub 0.48/As, GaAs, and Al/sub 0.2/Ga/sub 0.8/As APDs, with multiplication regions of different widths. The purpose of this study was to examine the differences of student-athletes' preferred leadership behavior for their coaches based on gender, competition level, task dependence, and task variability. Four hundred and eight male and female student-athletes from four NCAA Division I and six Division II universities expressed their preferences using the Revised Leadership Scale for Sport (RLSS) (Zhang, Jensen, & Mann, 1997). The preference version of the RLSS included six behavior dimensions, autocratic, democratic, positive feedback, situational consideration, social support, and training and instruction behaviors.

Despite the inclusion of a variety of time-related or 'temporal' datatypes in the SQL-92 standard, vendors of commercially-available Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) have universally elected to not fully comply with the standard. Perhaps even more frustrating is the fact that each vendor has chosen to include a different subset of temporal datatypes than their competitors, with most vendors adding a proprietary twist to their datatypes not even contained within the standard.

The purpose of this study was to identify and describe from an ecological perspective the characteristics contributing to collaboration, empowerment and effectiveness of federally mandated Ryan White Title I and Title II planning councils and consortia within the State of Florida.

A case study approach within two (2) community health planning partnerships, specifically those related to. HIV/AIDS consortia, was used to gather data over one and a half years. The methodology included a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches, utilizing documents, administering several survey instruments, observing meetings, and conducting individual interviews. College students judged the testimony in a civil trial in which a childhood memory had been recovered after 20 years. Participants were 108 students (n = 79 female and 29 male) enrolled in undergraduate psychology courses. The design was a 2 X 2 X 2 between subjects factorial design which investigated effects of the type of incident (sexual abuse/hit-and-run), how the memory was recovered (therapy/wedding), and type of testimony (assertive/emotional). The study determined that mock jurors were likely to perceive the plaintiff's testimony as credible when she testified she was sexually abused as a child rather than when she was …

A large number of patients do not follow medical advice for reasons generally unclear to the health care provider. Significant morbidity and mortality can be outcomes of noncompliance. The purpose of this naturalistic inquiry was to study and clarify from the patient's perspective, issues identified as influencing the ability to comply with provider recommendations. Data collection and analysis occurred simultaneously as a fluid process of organizing and synthesizing qualitative material into categories or themes that emerged to illuminate a phenomenon. Our break out session was charged with addressing the the following questions: Astronomy is changing. Eight to ten meter telescopes looking towards the edge of the Universe will dominate the astronomical landscape. Queue scheduling, large surveys, and the current emphasis towards the red end of the spectrum will also affect us. What consequences do these changes imply for our field? How can we convince telescope assignment committees to grand observing time to proposers from our community?

The usefulness of the many on-line journals and scientific digital libraries that exist today is limited by the inability to federate these resources through a unified interface. The Open Archive Initiative (OAI) is one major effort to address technical interoperability among distributed archives. The objective of OAI is to develop a framework to facilitate the discovery of content in distributed archives. Within the context of digital libraries (DLs), we are making information objects "first-class citizens". We decouple information objects from the systems used for their storage and retrieval, allowing the technology for both DLs and information content to progress independently. We believe dismantling the stovepipe of "DL-archive-content" is the first step in building richer DL experiences for users and insuring the long-term survivability of digital information. We show that a large variety of NP-complete problems can be solved efficiently for graphs with 'few' P₄'s. We consider domination problems (domination, total domination, independent domination. connected domination and dominating clique), the Steiner tree problem, the vertex ranking problem, the pathwidth problem, the path cover number problem, the hamiltonian circuit problem, the list coloring problem and the precoloring extension problem. We show that all these problems can be solved in linear time for the class of (q,q - 4)-graphs, for every fixed q. These are graphs for which no set of at most q. vertices induces more …
