New Evidence On The Structuring Of Ceo Incentive Pay Ratios, Rajaram Veliyath, James J. Cordeiro Jan 2001

New Evidence On The Structuring Of Ceo Incentive Pay Ratios, Rajaram Veliyath, James J. Cordeiro

Faculty Articles

The model examines both determinants of CEO incentive pay ratios that are controllable by the CEO, and those that are less controllable, based on a sample of 316 Fortune 500 firms in 1992. Firm diversity, firm growth opportunities, outside blockholdings, and the number of analysts following the firm were positively related to CEO incentive compensation ratios, while firm unsystematic risk, CEO stockholdings, and industry regulation had a negative impact. Finally, industry-specific influences were evident on incentive compensation ratios.

A Web-Enabled Temporal Database Human Resources Application, Joseph A. Brooke Iii Jan 2001

A Web-Enabled Temporal Database Human Resources Application, Joseph A. Brooke Iii

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Despite the inclusion of a variety of time-related or 'temporal' datatypes in the SQL-92 standard, vendors of commercially-available Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) have universally elected to not fully comply with the standard. Perhaps even more frustrating is the fact that each vendor has chosen to include a different subset of temporal datatypes than their competitors, with most vendors adding a proprietary twist to their datatypes not even contained within the standard.

This lack of conformity has left users of these database products faced with a difficult choice: either avoid temporal functionality within their database applications or develop and manage …

An Ecological Perspective Of Community Health Partnerships: A Case Study Of Collaboration, Empowerment And Effectiveness In Two Hiv/Aids Planning Consortia In Florida, Judith Ann Bassett

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to identify and describe from an ecological perspective the characteristics contributing to collaboration, empowerment and effectiveness of federally mandated Ryan White Title I and Title II planning councils and consortia within the State of Florida.

A case study approach within two (2) community health planning partnerships, specifically those related to. HIV/AIDS consortia, was used to gather data over one and a half years. The methodology included a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches, utilizing documents, administering several survey instruments, observing meetings, and conducting individual interviews. The interviews and surveys provided the primary sources of …

Optimization Of Apex-Mediated Dna Transformation In Rice, Marsha Natalie Samuels Jan 2001

Optimization Of Apex-Mediated Dna Transformation In Rice, Marsha Natalie Samuels

LSU Master's Theses

Genetic transformation using the rice shoot apical meristem, derived from germinating seedlings, was established in this study for commercial varieties of Oryza sativa. To optimize apex-mediated DNA transformation in rice several parameters were tested to improve the efficiency and reliability of isolation of the shoot apices and regeneration of vegetative shoot apices. Results from these experiments indicated that certain factors were important in increasing the frequency of survival rate of the apex, co-cultivation and co-transformation. These factors included: the starting size of the apex had to range between 1.0 mm and 1.2 mm for maximum survival of the apex, concentration …

The Synthesis Of Deuterated Arylamine Dna Adducts For Use In The Development Of An Isotope Dilution Lc/Ms/Ms Method, Philip Dmitri Olsen Jan 2001

The Synthesis Of Deuterated Arylamine Dna Adducts For Use In The Development Of An Isotope Dilution Lc/Ms/Ms Method, Philip Dmitri Olsen

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Polycyclic aromatic amines (arylamines) are a class of chemical carcinogens that are prevalent in environmental and industrial settings. In order to study the mechanism of their toxicity a quantitative and qualitative detection method was developed to measure the C8-adenine adducts of benzidine and 2-aminofluorene in DNA samples. To do this a novel synthetic method using a palladium catalyst was developed to prepare authentic and deuterated arylamine adducts to serve as standards. These standards were then used to develop a high performance liquid chromatography, electrospray, tandem mass spectrometry, isotope dilution, detection method. To demonstrate the validity of this method two spike …

Finding Grandpa's Patent: Using Patent Information For Historical Or Genealogical Research, Jan Comfort

Publications

Hardly a week goes by without a phone call, an e-mail message, or a visit from a patron who is looking for a patent issued to a family member. Often, the patron does not have complete information, and sometimes has nothing more than a name and a notion that Grandpa once invented something. This article describes some strategies that can be used by Librarians to assist patrons in historical patent research. It, additionally, includes a list of sources and highlights special materials that are available at Patent and Trademark Depository Libraries.

Electron Cyclotron Resonance Heating In Spherical Plasmas: O-X-Ebw Mode Conversion In Mast, Josef Preinhaelter, M. A. Irzak, Linda L. Vahala, George Vahala

Electrical & Computer Engineering Faculty Publications

Using a full wave solution, the O-X-EBW mode conversion is examined for density and magnetic profiles in MAST. The effects of magnetic shear and the sharp density pedestal for H-mode operation are considered with an eye to understanding both electron cyclotron emission (ECE) and electron cyclotron resonance heating (ECRH).
