Developing A Viable Intranet Site, Wendy C, Glidden Jan 2001

Developing A Viable Intranet Site, Wendy C, Glidden

Theses

This thesis will focus on establishing consistent guidelines in developing a successful corporate intranet website.

Office intranets are often neglected due to popularity of electronic commerce, and the company's investment in their public website. Standard instructions on how to develop a viable intranet site are not easily found and not likely taught.

With intranet development being a relatively new field, site expectations are very subjective. A site's perceived correctness largely depends on specific goals an organization has established for its site. There are generally high expectations and low budgets for intranets and if usability goals are not kept close at …

A Directorial View Of Tennessee Williams' Suddenly Last Summer, John Vullo Jan 2001

A Directorial View Of Tennessee Williams' Suddenly Last Summer, John Vullo

Theses

The nucleus of my thesis will be the direction of "Suddenly Last Summer'', by Tennessee Williams. This play will be performed under my direction for The St. Charles Theatre Company on October 27 and 28, November 3 and 4, 2000. "Suddenly Last Summer'' was first introduced to the public at the York Theatre, in New York City, on January 7, 1958.

It is my intent to present my own interpretation of this play and document my process of directing it in a community theatre environment. This becomes even more interesting to me because, although the St. Charles Theatre Company has …

The Correlation Between Family Adaptability Scores And Adolescent Incarceration, Katherine P. Richard Jan 2001

The Correlation Between Family Adaptability Scores And Adolescent Incarceration, Katherine P. Richard

Theses

Adolescent crimes continue to climb in number and level of violence despite efforts to curtail them. Little research has been done on the impact of family interaction styles on adolescent crime. This study attempts to confirm or disconfirm the hypothesis that adolescents who are incarcerated are more likely to score their families as having a rigid family interaction style based on the FACES III adaptability scale than adolescents who are not incarcerated. The family adaptability scores of approximately 50 adolescents in a midwestern lock down facility were compared to those of approximately 50 students selected from a midwestern church and …

An Activity Book To Teach Primary Skills To Individuals And Families Through Fun Interventions, Toni D. Cole

Theses

This thesis will focus on a new intervention approach that teaches individuals and families the skills needed to cope with life in appropriate ways.

Throughout history there have been many therapeutic theories and approaches that have clinically addressed the issues facing today's individuals and families. Play therapy and the family preservation model are the two theoretical approaches this thesis explores as key components in the design of a new intervention approach that meets the needs of individuals and families in their own environment.

This thesis proposes play therapy techniques that can be utilized by paraprofessionals, taking the teaching approach to …

Fictional Teeth, Linda Dyer Jan 2001

Fictional Teeth, Linda Dyer

Ahsahta Press

In her debut volume Fictional Teeth, Linda Dyer sorted out the world by pinpointing the unexpected connections that help it make sense, and turns the run-on tumbling syntax of an excited child into the medium for poems that first amuse, then haunt the reader. Venturing the territories of family and loss, persistence and hope, Dyer’s voice is wry and inventive in these poems, where a crayfish can be a child’s pet, a lover’s makeshift ashtray an erotic lure, office supplies a convenient resource for makeovers.

Measurement And Monitoring Of Microwave Reflection And Transmission Properties Of Cement-Based Materials For Propagation Modeling, Sergey Kharkovsky, U. C. Hasar, M. F. Akay, C. D. Atis Jan 2001

Measurement And Monitoring Of Microwave Reflection And Transmission Properties Of Cement-Based Materials For Propagation Modeling, Sergey Kharkovsky, U. C. Hasar, M. F. Akay, C. D. Atis

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

A non-destructive, contactless, free-space method is used for measuring and monitoring the properties of cement-based materials. We analyse the propagation factor, penetration depth and reflection and transmission coefficients of the plane wave interacting with the highly lossy specimen. Results are presented of the measurement and monitoring of the properties of cement-based materials during all stages of their lives and different curing conditions The expected applications of the results for propagation modelling are discussed.

Investigating The Assumptions Of Pedagogy, Judith E. Rink Jan 2001

Investigating The Assumptions Of Pedagogy, Judith E. Rink

Faculty Publications

The purpose of this article is to discuss the relationship between learning theories and teaching methodology from the perspective of the researcher and the teacher. All teaching methodologies have their roots in particular learning theories. Teaching methodologies are discussed in terms of the learning theories upon which they are founded. Learning theories are discussed in terms of their assumptions and the issues which divide them. A case is made that researchers need to validate the treatment not only in terms of the methodology the teacher uses but the learning process experienced by the learner. If it is the process which …

Legitimacy, Globally: The Incoherence Of Free Trade Practice, Global Economics And Their Governing Principles Of Political Economy, Michael H. Davis, Dana Neacsu

Law Faculty Publications

In this article, we observe the legalized character of the phenomenon popularly called "globalization." We first examine what it means to be a legalized phenomenon and observe that an important part of legalization is legitimation. In domestic legal regimes, legitimation is accomplished through the Rule of Law, which makes certain claims about the nature of the society of which the legal regime is a part. Simply stated, the Rule of Law claims that a legal system is legitimate if its rules are definite and predictable and are applied in a general, impartial, and non-retroactive manner. In the international trading system …
