VCU News, 2001-2002

VCU Today, the University’s first official administrative organ, began as a somewhat irregular monthly publication but moved to a bi-weekly newspaper format in the 1980s. The newspaper changed its name to VCU Voice in 1988 and ten years later it appeared under the title UniverCity News. As it neared the end of its run as a physical newspaper, the publication became simply VCU News. These four publications were essentially the same periodical published under different titles by the Office of University Relations. VCU News appeared online for the first time in 2002.

As a kind of functional polymer, the intrinsic conducting polymer has the special chemical, electrochemical and optical properties. So it has wide application such as batteries, electromagnetic wave shielding, electroluminescent etc. Recent development and the problems of the intrinsic conducting polymers' application were briefly reviewed in this paper.

Thermal Effects On The Measurement Of Photocurrent At Anodic Films On Silver Electrode, Yuan Gu, Zhi-Yu Jiang

Journal of Electrochemistry

The influence of heat on the photocurrent of Ag electrde in alkaline solution was investigated by measuring photocurrent, photothermal signal and thermal current under the irraiation of laser beams with the wavelengths of 488 nm and 532 nm. It was found the photocurrent atthe Ag₂O film was influenced by the temperature change at the electrode surface under the irradiation of light. During the electrochemical transfer between Ag, Ag₂O and AgO in the anodic filmthe surface temperature changed obviously due to the different absprptance of the surface subrstances.It was suggested by comparing the voltammograms, photocurrent curves and …

Study Of Hydrogen Diffusion Behavior In Hydrogen Storage Alloy Mlni3.75Co0.65Mn0.4Al0.2 With Potential Step Method, Xian-Xia Yuan, Nai-Xin Xu

Journal of Electrochemistry

Potential step method was employed to study the hydrogen diffusion behavior in hydrogen storage alloy MlNi_3.75 Co_0.65Mn_0.4Al_0.2 with various depth of discharge (DOD) at ambient temperature and with 50% DOD at various temperatures. It was found that hydrogen diffusion cofficient in the hydrogen storage alloy increaes with the increase in DOD at ambient temperature. and for the alloy with 50% DOD, the hydrogen diffusion coefficient increases with the increase in temperature and the activation energy for hydrogen diffusion in the alloy is 19.87 kJ/mol.

In 0.1 mol/L, HAc solution (pH=2.89), the voltammetric behaviours of aloeemodin at a glassy carbon electode has been studied, One pair of current peak of the voltammogram maybe attributed to a quasireversible two-electron transfer of aloeemodin molecules at the glassy carbon electrode. A new method, the derivative anodic stripping voltammetry, for aloeemodin de-termination is described. The adsorptive potential of aioeemodin is -0. 80 V (vs. SCE) , while itsstripping potential is -0.38 V (vs. SCE). The peak current is propotionat to the concentration ofaloeemodin over the range of 2.0 x10⁷~8.0 x10⁶ mol/L. The method is simple, rapid …

The truck drove on the usual track that both vehicles used to pass without any problem but due to the slippery ground conditions, the land cruiser escaped from the usual track and it activated a MAI-75 AP mine with its right rear wheel which caused an immediate explosion. This happened inside the cleared area, approximately 287 metres from the beginning of the road (at that time, 4700 metres had already been cleared).

The Wellhead Protection Area Act (WHPA Act) was adopted in 1998. The WHPA Act authorizes public water suppliers (primarily cities and villages) to designate wellhead protection areas (WHPAs) to protect community water supplies from pollution.

Under the Nebraska Safe Drinking Water Quality Act, the quality of water provided by public water supply systems is regulated by the Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services. If a community’s water violates drinking water standards, the community can operate only under NDHHS administrative order until the violations are corrected.
