A Habitat Suitability Model For Pygmy Rabbits (Brachylagus Idahoensis) In Southeastern Idaho, Kate I. Gabler, Laura T. Heady, John W. Laundré Nov 2001

A Habitat Suitability Model For Pygmy Rabbits (Brachylagus Idahoensis) In Southeastern Idaho, Kate I. Gabler, Laura T. Heady, John W. Laundré

Western North American Naturalist

A habitat suitability model was developed for pygmy rabbit (Brachylagus idahoensis) habitat on the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL) in southeastern Idaho. Suitable pygmy rabbit areas were characterized by greater cover and density of total shrubs and big sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata), as well as greater forb cover. Soil texture also played an important role in distinguishing suitable pygmy rabbit areas from nonuse sites. Principal components analysis (PCA) of several vegetation variables and soil texture was used to develop a habitat suitability model for pygmy rabbit habitat. This model, which can be used to successfully …

Industry Guide To Selecting The Best Residential Window Options For The Florida Climate (Revised), Florida Solar Energy Center, Ross Mccluney Nov 2001

Industry Guide To Selecting The Best Residential Window Options For The Florida Climate (Revised), Florida Solar Energy Center, Ross Mccluney

FSEC Energy Research Center®

It used to be said that windows are little more than holes in the insulation. It is true to some extent that poorly insulated and drafty windows in certain climates defeat the purpose of wall insulation. However, modern high performance windows are almost as good as opaque insulated wall sections, at least in terms of total energy savings over long periods of time. In some cases, they can be shown to actually out-perform insulated walls. Of course, they have the priceless additional benefits of providing views to the outdoors and natural daylight illumination indoors important issues of quality and comfort. …

Entropy Splitting For High Order Numerical Simulation Of Vortex Sound At Low Mach Numbers, Bernhard Müller, H. C. Yee Nov 2001

Entropy Splitting For High Order Numerical Simulation Of Vortex Sound At Low Mach Numbers, Bernhard Müller, H. C. Yee

United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration: Publications

Several recent developments in efficient, stable, highly parallelizable high order non-dissipative spatial schemes with characteristic based filters that exhibit low dissipation for long time linear and nonlinear wave propagations are utilized for computational aeroacoustics (CAA). For stability consideration, the Euler equations are split into a conservative and a symmetric non-conservative portion. Due to the large disparity of acoustic and stagnation quantities in low Mach number aeroacoustics, the split Euler equations are formulated in perturbation form to minimize numerical cancellation errors. Spurious oscillations are suppressed by a characteristic-based filter. The method has been applied to accurately simulate the sound emitted by …
