To be successful, organizations that undertake a large-scale planned change initiative must maintain employee commitment and loyalty to the organization. Identification with the organization can support that objective and is crucial in changing organizations when managers often introduce different cultural assumptions, values, and norms than those held by the organization's members. Software quality models based on software metrics provide a systematic and scientific way to detect software faults early and to improve software reliability. Classification models for software quality usually classify observations using two groups. This thesis presents a new algorithm for classification using three groups, i.e., Three-Group Classification Model using Case Based Reasoning. This study deals with the impact of electronic commerce (e-commerce) on sales tax revenues in Florida. It uses econometric modeling to forecast taxable retail sales and compares two models. Based on the separation of consumer sales (durables and nondurables) from total taxable sales, changes associated with sales suitable for electronic commerce are scrutinized. Results show that only the model that focuses on consumer sales, not the model for total sales, documents a substantial difference in forecast reliability. Forecasts for 1995--1999, the period of inception of electronic commerce, are compared to forecasts for 1989--1994. The errors in forecast increased three-fold both …

Zora Neale Hurston's novel, Moses, Man of the Mountain, is a metaphor of the African-American striving for liberation. It uses the Exodus story from the Hebrew scriptures as a trope of oppression, struggle, and hope. Hurston uses duality and ambiguity to delineate the issues of struggle, allowing the reader to determine the significance of the narrative. Moses emerges as a "two-headed doctor," an African-American term for a powerful conjurer. Moses is presented as an agent of God and at the same time a source of power for the benefit of the people.

All narratives in which the human image is presented establish an interconnectedness of time and space, what Mikhail Bakhtin calls the chronotope. When Victor Hugo wrote Les Miserables, he drew upon a historical chronotope originating in the narratives that accompanied the spread of Christianity, and which found its purest distillate in the genre of hagiography---the narrating of the lives of saints. Application of a small autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) is described as a platform for measurement of oceanic turbulence in coastal waters during cold atmospheric fronts. The turbulence package, mounted on the AUV, allows horizontal profiling and measurement of small-scale fluctuations of velocity and temperature and other characteristics of the flow in the ocean mixed layer. The turbulence measurements were made in conjunction with current profile measurements, conductivity, temperature, and depth measurements, providing the background conditions. A basic difference between the perspectives of actors and observers is the amount of information each has to make attributional inferences. Jones and Nisbett (1971) suggested these informational differences lead to an inverse relationship between trait and situational attributions, such that better-known others receive more situational attributions while lesser-known others receive more trait attributions. We hypothesized that attributors typically ignore their perceptions of situational variability when constructing their trait attributions as these perceptions are biased by the number of available observations. The purpose of this qualitative study was to learn how high school mathematics teachers and school administrators perceived Florida's school accountability system, the A+ Plan. This inquiry was conducted during the spring of 2001, in one of the largest urban school districts in Florida, with a sample of 27 participants, 21 teachers and 6 administrators, pre-selected from a high, an average, and a low performing high school. Data was gathered in the form of tape-recorded interviews, hand written field notes, and document analysis. This study presents computer simulations directed to address the performance of a baseband Bluetooth system. These simulations help to understand the performance impairments experienced by the Bluetooth systems in the presence of external electromagnetic interference (EMI) and interference that arises from piconet neighbors. The simulation results show that the effect of small scale fading is an important factor that decides the performance of a Bluetooth system. Seasonal activity in the Town of Palm Beach created a unique environment for the men who worked as police officers. Even though the town incorporated in 1911, year-round law enforcement consisted of one man, Joseph Borman, for the first ten years. Historically, the definition of "pastoral" was limited to eclogues and idylls that epitomize a simple way of life, usually with shepherds as their subject. An acoustic compliant coating is applied on a fluid-loaded structure to control the radiated pressure, by decoupling the fluid medium from the vibrating surface. Clinton's success in engendering loyalty in the African-American, despite his failure to deliver socio-economic and political benefits, presents us with an apparent paradox. The contention is that the answer to this paradox could be found in the rhetorical style and strategies habitually employed by Clinton when speaking to African-Americans. Adoption rates of these practices are better understood for large organizations as compared to small standalone organizations. Based on surveys and interviews, this study analyzes the utilization of software development best practices by small software organizations, and the factors that influence different levels of adoption. The differences between orality and literacy have been explored by theorists who have focused mainly on the differences in the nature of communication once writing is introduced. This dissertation is an investigation of the sources of commonly observed event-related transients in statistical measures of interdependence: variance, cross-correlation, power spectrum density and coherence spectrum density time functions. These measures are often employed in the analysis of spatio-temporal interdependence patterns in neural activity. In order to understand the phenomenon, the origins of the variability of event-related responses are revisited. Theories of criminal behavior have been tested individually and in integrated models incorporating multiple theories. Using data from the National Youth Survey Wave VII (1987), an integrated model incorporating traditional strain, differential association, and control theories is tested. Results show that each theory alone is a significant predictor of criminal behavior. Also, the integrated model enhances explanatory power of criminal behavior, over that of each individual theory.
