Walking The Edge Of Death: An Annotated Bibliography On Juveniles, The Mentally Ill, And The Death Penalty, Susan M. Boland

The death penalty is not as monolithic as it seems at first glance. A storm of debate has centered on the application of this, the harshest criminal penalty of all, to the mentally ill, mentally retarded, and juveniles. They are our most vulnerable and least culpable citizens. This bibliography consists of annotated references to periodical articles, books, Web sites, and Supreme Court cases that examine the application of the death penalty to juveniles, the mentally ill, and the mentally retarded. Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State

This report represents an examination of geoarcheological issues affecting a six county area in the vicinity of Houston, Texas. The study area includes Harris, Montgomery, Waller, Fort Bend, Brazoria, and Galveston counties (Figure 1), which collectively make up the Houston District, a regional administrative entity of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). This study represents the first phase of a district-focused geoarcheological program being implemented at TxDOT, with similar studies of other districts to follow . It is intended to familiarize archeologists working in the region with relevant geoarcheological issues, thus serving as a resource for researchers involved in prospection, …

This research examines the function of the black church in African American Society in general, and its function in the African American community in West Virginia in particular. Determining what the black church sees as its overall mission is my primary concern. Specifically, the research examines the relationship between themes that emerge from black pastor’s personal ministry philosophies, and themes that appear in priestly ministry and prophetic ministry. Crime Victims’ Satisfaction With Police Services: An Assessment In One Urban Community, Richard Tewksbury, Angela D. Crews

Criminal Justice Faculty Research

A 3‐month study examined crime victims’ satisfaction with police response to calls for service. Respondents were asked to rate officers with whom they interacted in overall satisfaction, and in courtesy/politeness, speed of response, concern, and helpfulness. Results indicate consistently high overall ratings. Nonparametric statistics indicate that female respondents rated officers significantly higher than male respondents, but no other demographic (age, race, education) or experiential variables (reason for call, location of problem, prior contact with police) significantly impacted ratings. Nonparametric correlations indicated that an officer's perceived helpfulness was the strongest correlate of overall satisfaction, while speed of response was the weakest.
