By 1974, according to the Association of American Indian Affairs, approximately 25 to 35 percent of all Indian children were separated from their families and placed in foster homes, adoptive homes, or institutions.The Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) was passed in 1978 in response to this overwhelming evidence that Native children were being adopted out of tribes at alarming rates. ICWA mandates that tribes and Alaska Native villages have jurisdiction over their child welfare cases, and mandates certain rules when Native children's cases are heard in state courts, including permitting the tribe to intervene in the state case at any …

In recent years, there has been an increase in public and professional concern regarding the mentally ill offender in the criminal justice system. Several researchers have identified the need for further investigation of the mentally ill in correctional environments. This research was pai1 of a program evaluation in a large metropolitan county jail. Four main question were investigated: 1. Do inmates identified as mentally ill differ from the general jail population? 2. Aspects Of A Basic Training Course Comparatively Rated In Retrospective Evaluation By Girl Scout Leaders, Diana Jane Curtin

One hundred and ninety-one volunteer Girl Scout leaders at a midsize northern California council participated in this study to determine the most and least valuable aspects of their new leader training, which was based on Kolb's experiential learning model (1984). The following were the top five aspects that leaders identified as most valuable: (a) trainer's knowledge; (b) using Safety-wise; (c) where to buy Girl Scout supplies; (d) Girl Scout Promise and Law; and (e) information on council events.
