The Role Of Microsimulation In Longitudinal Data Analysis, Douglas A. Wolf
The Role Of Microsimulation In Longitudinal Data Analysis, Douglas A. Wolf
Center for Policy Research
The term “microsimulation” has been linked to a range of tools and techniques that are finding growing use in empirical social science applications. This paper considers one such area, namely the potential for microsimulation to serve the needs of the data analyst, in contrast to the more common use of microsimulation by the model user. Furthermore, the focus is on longitudinal rather than cross-sectional data analysis. The paper identifies several types of longitudinal data modeling approaches in which microsimulation is particularly relevant, suggesting algorithms with which to conduct such microsimulations. Microsimulation can be used to extend the range of inferences …

Living In A House Of Cards: Family Experiences With Long-Term Childhood Technology Dependence, Maureen O'Brien
Living In A House Of Cards: Family Experiences With Long-Term Childhood Technology Dependence, Maureen O'Brien
College of Nursing Faculty Research and Publications
Families' experiences of providing long-term home care for the child who is technology dependent were explored via parental interviews. Families identified frequent change, uncertainty, and unpredictability in their lives, a phenomenon described as "living in a house of cards." Attempts to increase stability involved the use of vigilance, advocacy, and reframing. Areas of challenge, change, and growth included making sense of life, managing daily life with technology, and maintaining a functioning family. Increased understanding of family experiences with long-term childhood technology dependence can provide nurses with additional strategies for providing optimal care to this population.

Individual Development Accounts: The Path To A Dream, Judy Mckenna, Alma Owen, Catherine Blansett
Individual Development Accounts: The Path To A Dream, Judy Mckenna, Alma Owen, Catherine Blansett
Journal of Extension
Low-income workers can increase their financial security by increasing their asset base. Individual Development Accounts (IDAs) match participant savings for preagreed upon goals such as home ownership, education, and small businesses. IDA program evaluation found that half of the participants saved at least 80% of the maximum amount allowed. Extension educators have an opportunity to incorporate IDAs into poverty-reduction strategies in their counties. They can also provide financial education as a means to help families set and sustain long-term financial goals and plans.

An African-Centered Model For The Group Treatment Of Domestic Violence, Robert John Wehling
An African-Centered Model For The Group Treatment Of Domestic Violence, Robert John Wehling
Theses and Graduate Projects
The purpose of this thesis is to develop a group treatment program for social workers to help them work effectively with African-American men who have committed domestic violence. The program model uses an African-Centered perspective, incorporating differentiation therapy and an ecological, systems perspective. A twelve-week group treatment program is developed to help men understand and take responsibility for their abusive behavior. It empowers men by helping them take control of their lives, to improve their self-definition, regulate their emotional state, and deepen their understanding of their rich cultural heritage.
