Consumer Decision Making In A Multi-Generational Choice Set Context, Namwoon Kim, Rajendra K. Srivastava, Jin K. Han Sep 2001

Consumer Decision Making In A Multi-Generational Choice Set Context, Namwoon Kim, Rajendra K. Srivastava, Jin K. Han

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

Most new product adoption models have focused on single-generation products. Only recently have researchers begun to focus on the importance of analyzing consumers' purchase demands in multi-generation products. This paper proposes a model that incorporates both initial and repeat purchases and allows for leap-frogging behavior for multi-generation technological products. Whereas most new product adoption models are based on aggregate market sales, the proposed model is estimated and validated on individual consumer data. Within a logistical modeling framework, the model combines a purchase incidence (buy/not buy) component and generation choice components for each time period. These model components allow for individual …

The Historical Uniqueness Of The Clinton Welfare Reforms: A New Level Of Social Misery?, Larry Patriquin Sep 2001

The Historical Uniqueness Of The Clinton Welfare Reforms: A New Level Of Social Misery?, Larry Patriquin

The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare

This essay argues that the 1996 reforms to the American welfare state have no historical precedent. They are not a return to "the poorhouse era" and are radically distinct from Great Britain's new poor law of 1834, to which they are often compared. America is the first advanced capitalist country to jettison a significant element of its welfare state and, as such, is moving into waters that are uncharted and dangerous.

Framework For Internet Banking Security, Jai Ganesh, T R Madanmohan Sep 2001

Framework For Internet Banking Security, Jai Ganesh, T R Madanmohan

IIMB Management Review

The way customers are using financial services is changing rapidly. Today’s financial services are characterised by individuality, mobility, independence of place and time, and flexibility. The Internet, based on client server technology, has facilitated this change. Financial services companies are using the Internet as a new distribution channel, offering complex products at lower transaction costs to more potential customers. This also allows customers to access the service from any part of the world at any time, which they are doing through a range of intelligent information access and processing devices which include PDAs and mobile phones. Let's Get Personal: Exploring The Professional Persona In Health Care, Terry Maccormack Sep 2001

Let's Get Personal: Exploring The Professional Persona In Health Care, Terry Maccormack

The Qualitative Report

This paper describes how a group of counselors and counseling lecturers at a rural university in New South Wales, Australia, initiated an exploration of their personal experiences as health care providers using an innovative research approach in which they engaged in a series of open, tape-recorded conversations with one another about their work. Their method also included transcribing and analyzing their narratives in a search for underlying themes in the thoughts and feelings that they shared. The intent behind their project was to find a way to voice how health care providers are affected by their work, and in so …
