Telling Transitions At The Table: Re-Served Seats Of Higher Learning?, Dorothy Lander Mar 2001

Telling Transitions At The Table: Re-Served Seats Of Higher Learning?, Dorothy Lander

The Qualitative Report

This paper traces the transitions of first year students and other adults of the university as they partake in an intergenerational shared inquiry at a common table. My transformative research invites students, faculty, and staff to attend to (eat) and transform (digest) the moral and political encounters in successive becomings from their speaking positions at a common table. This dialogical partaking of words disrupts the market discourse of student as consumer and re-stories the university as a service organization where all organizational actors are consuming and being consumed. Eating together and telling transitions dissolve boundaries between service and knowledge, between …

Vaccination Programs For Dairy Young Stock, Clell Bagley

All Current Publications

Vaccines are an important tool to use in herd health programs for the protection of animal health. However, vaccines often do not protect health by themselves, and should be used in conjunction with good management practices. The timing of vaccination and selection of product type are important considerations.

Dietary Intake And Energy Expenditure Of Female Collegiate Swimmers During Decreased Training Prior To Competition, Laura Ousley-Pahnke, David R. Black, Randall J. Gretebeck Mar 2001

Dietary Intake And Energy Expenditure Of Female Collegiate Swimmers During Decreased Training Prior To Competition, Laura Ousley-Pahnke, David R. Black, Randall J. Gretebeck

College of Nursing Faculty Research and Publications

Swimmers, like all athletes, require a well-balanced diet with adequate energy intake for normal daily activities and the demands of training and competition. Investigators have typically studied nutritional status of athletes during heavy or peak training (1), (2). These studies generally show low levels of energy intake relative to expenditure, and carbohydrate intake also well below recommendations. However, several studies of the effects of exercise on energy intake have shown that as exercise energy expenditure increases or decreases, dietary intake tends to remain the same (3), (4), (5). Because training volume varies with the competitive season, it is important to …

Alfalfa For Beef Cattle, W. Roy Burris Feb 2001

Alfalfa For Beef Cattle, W. Roy Burris

Kentucky Alfalfa and Stored Forage Conference

Alfalfa is sometimes said to be "too good" for beef cattle. Although it's nutritional value may sometimes exceed beef cows' needs, to dismiss it's potential for beef cattle would be a mistake. Alfalfa can be useful as a harvested feed or as a grazing crop.
