The Foundation Series On Corrosion: Integrating Science, Math, Engineering & Technology In A Lab Setting, Linda Vanasupa, Heather Smith, Blair London, Katherine C. Chen, David Niebuhr, Lanny Griffin, Jeff Jones

Materials Engineering

We have developed a laboratory module focusing on the subject of corrosion. The module itself is designed to be completed in one three-hour session. It consists of three parts: I. The Impact of Corrosion Media, II. The Impact of Corroding Materials, III. The Impact of Anode/Cathode Sizes. Our objectives in developing this module were to address the need for clear bridges between math, science and technology in the engineering curriculum and to provide a means of faculty development primarily at community colleges. As a result, it was designed to allow the engineering student to experience the synergy of science, math …

A Feasibility Study For The Implementation Of Non Site Based Hands On Curriculum For Engineering Technology Education, Immanuel Edinbarough, S. Manian Ramkumar

Presentations and other scholarship

This paper discusses the development of an intelligent architecture for web-based programming & control of an automated manufacturing cell. The cell consists of a three-axis TERCO CNC milling machine, an IBM SCARA robot and a raw material feed station. The cell components are integrated using a data acquisition system (DAS), programmed using Visual Basic and controlled through the web. A dedicated web page provides the users the opportunity to learn CNC programming and its control from remote sites. When the user submits a CNC program, the server in the lab takes control and executes various routines to complete the machining …

A Rapid Twofold Dilution Method For Microbial Enumeration And Resuscitation Of Uninjured And Sublethally Injured Bacteria, D H. Kang, G R. Siragusa Jun 2001

A Rapid Twofold Dilution Method For Microbial Enumeration And Resuscitation Of Uninjured And Sublethally Injured Bacteria, D H. Kang, G R. Siragusa

Roman L. Hruska U.S. Meat Animal Research Center: Reports

Aims: A rapid and simple method for enumerating uninjured and sublethally injured bacterial cells, the twofold dilution method (2FD), was developed and evaluated. Methods and Results: Following twofold serial dilution of samples in a 96 well microtiter plate, double strength selective broth or nonselective broth was added to each well. For resuscitation of heat-injured (55°C for 10 min) coliforms, the selective broth was added to the wells after 3 h preresuscitation time in buffered peptone water. The results of the 2FD were compared to plating methods for total and coliform plate counts from mixed cultures and beef carcass surface tissue …

Family systems and parenting have changed with the adaptation of hypertechnical communications. Adolescents have been given the power, through hypertechnical communications, to have more divergent agendas from those of the family at large. Adding the power of instant communication and information to …
