Twenty Questions For Document Classification, George Nagy, Sharad C. Seth Jan 2001

Twenty Questions For Document Classification, George Nagy, Sharad C. Seth

School of Computing: Conference and Workshop Papers

Documents – manuscripts, books, magazines, newspapers, sheet music, circuit diagrams, checks, web pages, email attachments, music- CDs, videos, and cuneiform - mirror the culture of the time and serve as the primary source of historical record. Although it seems natural to classify documents according to "format" before examining their content, form and function are often intertwined. The design of a document interpretation system must take both into consideration.

What are the essential parameters of a document interpretation system? What needs to be known before undertaking the design or purchase of such a system? What is the interrelationship of the client, …

Caustic Consideration Of Long Planetary Wave Packet Analysis In The Continuously Stratified Ocean, Arthur D. Gorman, Huijun Yang Jan 2001

Caustic Consideration Of Long Planetary Wave Packet Analysis In The Continuously Stratified Ocean, Arthur D. Gorman, Huijun Yang

Marine Science Faculty Publications

The wave packet method, one form of the WKB technique, recently has been employed to investigate the evolution of long planetary wave packets in relation to the complex climate variability in the world oceans. However, such a method becomes invalid near the caustics. Here, the Lagrange manifold formalism is used to extend this analysis to include the caustic regions. We conclude that even though the wave packet method fails near the caustics, the equations derived from this method away from caustics are identical to ones from the Lagrange manifold formalism near caustics

The Cooperative Approach: A Handbook For Elementary Physical Education Teachers Focusing On Cooperation Within The Pe Curriculum, Michael D. Johnson

All Graduate Projects

After being transferred to teach physical education, I wanted to prepare myself by gaining some background knowledge on foundations, concepts, and objectives in physical education. I noticed a large transformation in recent years from curriculums focusing on competitive, self-defeating games, to an approach aimed at teaching skills, cooperation and teamwork. I compiled research on the history, goals and intent, and cooperation and teamwork in the physical education curriculum. I also compiled research on the national and state standards, and evaluation and grading in the physical education program. Based on the research, I created a handbook for physical education teachers. The …

Incorporating Heterogeneity In Command Center Interactions, Holly A. H. Handley, Alexander H. Levis Jan 2001

Incorporating Heterogeneity In Command Center Interactions, Holly A. H. Handley, Alexander H. Levis

Engineering Management & Systems Engineering Faculty Publications

One of the many complexities of multinational coalition operations stems from differences in culture, military procedures, and command and control processes between the cooperating command centers. These differences can influence the interactions between decision makers of different command centers and can affect the outcome of the coalition operation. A coalition model, composed of individual models of the five-stage interacting decision maker model, was used in a virtual experiment. The subjective parameters included in the decision maker model can be any attribute that characterizes the heterogeneity of the decision makers. In this case, the parameters of power distance and uncertainty avoidance …
